In an interview posted on today's Zap2it.com, Alec Baldwin revealed that he has no intention of returning to the Great White Way following his recent experience in the Broadway revival of 'Orphans'. "No more," the actor tells the site. "Broadway has changed. It is not what I remember. It was a very, very, very exhausting experience. The last week we did the show it settled in."
Did Broadway "change" or does Alec feel 21 yrs older than the last time he was on Broadway?
Lazy actor making excuses? And, what's "exhausting"? The work? The politics? The criticism professional and social? Or, the harsh reality that he is no ticket seller, Tom Hanks?
You'd think this guy never worked in show biz. Best to stick to the less strenuous CGI credit card commercials, Alec.
And please don't all Pascal on me.

You do know he works 14 hours a day when he films 30 rock right? How the hell is he lazy? He just won a freakin SAG award this year! What a stupid thing to say.
He won a SAG this year. Its just incredibly naive to call Alec Baldwin lazy. He has been in the business for how long? and has won how many awards? That's like calling Mandy Patinkin lazy! I guess winning two Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards is "Lazy" to you?
"Alec just seems to complain an awful lot to me on a host of issues"
So what? Then don't watch his films and tv shows. He has every right to complain about something. Plus he was in an INTERVIEW, he didn't just go on some rant, he was ASKED those questions and he responded truthfully. Is he not entitled to his opinion? HA dont make me laugh!
"it's because he never actually sees anything to form his own opinions so he has to base everything on awards and word of mouth."
Oooooh. Well, that makes a little more sense.
I've never seen Alec on Broadway, but have seen him twice in Off-Broadway performances. Maybe that's where he needs to be, focusing on the play and not the bloat and expense and expectations of current Broadway.
"Calm down, broadway guy. Zheezus. I'm a Baldwin lover but your operatic defense makes me want to pick on him just because it annoys you."
So you pick on an actor because because it will give you joy to annoy a random poster? What does that say about you? Pick on him all you want if it brings you joy. I'm not even an Alec Baldwin fan, he didn't deserve half those SAG awards if you ask me but to call him Lazy is just downright stupid.
"broadway guy---I have to ask you, why do you keep using awards as an indication of how hard an actor works?"
Would you like me to use how many years he has been successfully in the business of TV,Film and theatre instead? He is also a columnist for the Huffington post...
Its a shame we can't hear the entire interview, these are just pull quotes.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

Yeah, he's LAZY! Was there a moment in Rock of Ages where ALEC BALDWIN wasn't there in a funny wig?
My opinion. Some actors seem to take it easy, some don't. Baldwin hasn't impressed me in years. (Not since Kim days.)
Just cuz someone gets work as an actor for 30 years, doesn't mean he's not artistically lazy. I'm not talking about that he can get to work on time, hit his mark, or run up 10 stairs and pick up a gold plated industry trinket. I'm talking artistically lazy. My opinion. You have yours.
And, I'm not a Baldwin hater ( are there any? ). But, I can see why people wouldn't feel compelled to pay 400 bucks to see him. And, I can see why he could be disappointed. And he's shown to have a tendency to vent and not let things roll off his back (slugging photographers and all).
That's all.

Baldwin wasn't good in Orphans. He was Baldwin playing Baldwin playing a character. That doesn't necessarily make him a bad actor, or lazy--sometimes an actor is miscast, or simply not up to a particular role. In his article for Huffington Post a few weeks back he seemed to show admiration for Off-Broadway and non-profit theatre; I wouldn't be surprised if he came back to theatre that way at some point.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Alec Baldwin can be one of the most compelling actors on stage when he gives enough time to preparing for his performance. He was astonishingly good in STREETCAR and had flashes of brilliance when he did EQUUS out here on Long Island a few years ago. The problem with EQUUS was that during his longer speeches, you could see that he was only a line or two ahead of his dialogue. That "deer in the headlights" look gave him away. Later, I learned that he'd taken chunks of time off from rehearsals to prepare for SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and give a commencement speech or two. That meant he lost valuable rehearsal time.
I saw ORPHANS and though Baldwin was quite good. I questioned the reasoning for reviving such a mediocre play, though.
I won't take his comments about abandoning Broadway seriously, though. Remember, this is the man who threatened to leave the USA if Bush was re-elected.
Bye Mr. Baldwin, please don't worry about the theatre, it will go on just fine without you, and besides you should pursue what makes you happy, and if not returning to Broadway accomplishes that, we are all the better for it, especially you. Besides, television and movies are easier on the concentration, stamina, and talent. You could always run for mayor of New York City -- and if you think your life is under a microscope now.....just ask Mr. Weiner.
