New York Musical Theatre Festival’s (NYMF) Student Leadership Program (SLP) is inviting any current grad, undergrad, or graduate in the class of 2013 to submit songs for one of two concerts to be presented on July 12th. For more information about Mint’d: an evening devoted to new student musical theatre composers, lyricists and performers, please read below:

In the middle of the summer heat, Mint’d will be the place to be to experience an evening of fresh music from diverse voices by students from across the world. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with other artists, network with producers and organizations in New York, and hear your music come to life in front of an audience. The evening will be presented as two concerts, and you may submit work to either series or both.

Concert A: Inheritance - a night to reimagine our theatrical roots. From Rodgers & Hammerstein or Sondheim to Pasek & Paul or RSO, we are building on a rich history. This series is about how you pay homage with a pulse. Give us that sound that excites you and pushes this historic mode of storytelling forward!

Concert B: Explorers is looking for new sounds that challenge and reinvent musicals for the next century. The creators of Once transferred the intimacy of a singer-songwriter from screen to stage, Fela! brought the music of African night clubs to an American audience. Explorers is seeking artists we believe are going to redefine the genre of musical theatre for tomorrow.

Please submit to slp@nymf.org by June 6th, 2013 (midnight):
• songs in an mp3 format
• lyric sheet for each song (.doc or .pdf format)
• brief explanation of dramatic context, if relevant

Recordings do not have to be professional demo quality. Up to ten (10) songs may be submitted for each application. Please include what instruments are required to perform your material. Let us know if you have a preference for performer(s). There is no pay and no fee to apply.

NYMF is New York’s premiere launching pad for new musical works, propelling successful shows like Altar Boyz, [title of show], The Big Voice: God or Merman?, Captain Louie, The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Gutenberg! The Musical, Yank!, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal.

NYMF Mint’d will take place at the stunning 191-seat Jewel Box Griffin Theatre, as part of NYMF’s 10th Anniversary season at The Pershing Square Signature Center on July 12th at 5pm and 8pm in New York City. www.nymf.org
