There was some great color footage of Angela Lansbury's Gypsy in part one of Michael Feinstein's "American Songbook" TV prgoram. I had seen bits of it in black and white online, but the quality of the color footage in the Feinstein show was amazing. It was the same three numbers I've seen online (Some People, Together and Rose's Turn) so perhaps those were the only three numbers that were filmed.
Does anyone know where that came from? I would love to see more. Angela in Gypsy was my very first show. What a great way to start!
While I enjoyed that program, it would have been much better with less of Feinstein singing and more rate footage, or even more of the fascinating info about the various archives that were discussed.

In one of her more recent interviews (within last 5 years or so) Angela Lansbury talks about this Gypsy footage on youtube. I would love to see that interview again if anyone knows which one it is off the top of their head?

PJ. The footage on the PBS special was in color and very sharp. It looked like it could have been filmed yesterday. On a side note. There is a entire video of the revival of Mame with Lansbury. It looks like it was shot from the first row of the Mezzanine of the then Uris theater. It is available for rent at Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee video store in North Hollywood.
I think they have some legal way of having it. I know all the studios use that place for research . You do have to ask and sign for it. And it is not in their catalog. And I can't remember ( it has been a few years) , but you might have to show credentials. They also have a lot of B roll but you have to know what you want and how to ask for it.
After years of searching, I have managed to find out as much as possible on footage of Angela Lansbury in Gypsy.
Here is the current one on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz2J9Bnr2vU - Possible b-roll, Everything's Coming Up Roses
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj-R2yeLaO0 - 12 minute long b-roll with bits of the show, and complete Together Wherever We Go
This is all the footage I have found information on:
- The most well known, a 12 minute long audio b-roll footage used to TV reviews. This was shown in much better quality on Michael Feinstein's American Songbook documentary.
- The one with the link above, which was b-roll for TV reviews. It was a complete video, and there was also footage shot from the same place of "Some People".
- Footage shot from the wings, which she herself said to have seen in a 2007 interview.
- Footage shot from the balcony, which she herself said to have seen in the interview mentioned above.
(And of course, there is also the complete soundboard recording!)
