"There’s magic being done at “Pippin” at the Music Box. The advance sale for Stephen Schwartz’s beloved 1970 musical is closing in on $5 million. This is the first Broadway revival of “Pippin,” and it seems that everybody who ever did it in high school is turning out to see it."
At least according to Riedels column.
I'm curious what the advance (if any) there is for KINKY BOOTS. Riedel column
It seems to be so far. It's the first revival on Broadway and it's been re-imagined by a popular director who has a unique vision. Something tells me you're from the UK, and if so, this will be nothing like the production of Pippin that played in London last year.
I think Pippin is a pretty recognizable title in the US. There have been tons of regional and high school productions and a lot of us from the younger generation who enjoyed those productions have probably never seen a professional staging.
PIPPIN has the Weissler marketing machine behind it -- you can bet your arse that once the original cast contracts expire there will be plenty of stunt casting.
KINKY BOOTS has the Daryl Roth marketing machine behind it and she will spare no expense marketing those reviews.
