In the little part at the end that the mother sings after Carrie is locked away....she says "oh lord I've seen this power before, the flesh is weak and I implore...."

Where did she see the power before? Isn't that scene (the closing of the windows) the first time the power is used?

P.S. I've never seen the show....only the movie.

I assumed she is talking about the power of desire. Margaret herself succumbed to the sins of the flesh. Now that Carrie is a woman Margaret knows all too well the path Carrie could head down.

It's the power of the period.

First comes the blood, then come the boys.....

but she says "the seed contains the power and it's come again"...also

maybe I'm reading too much into this but I thought she means the telekinesis is a genetic trait from the father.

You remind of the babe.

What babe?

The babe with the power.

What power?

The power of the period.

No, she's definitely talking about Carrie's period. The "seed" is, well, the egg, and now that Carrie can have kids she's vulnerable to the power of desire. Not strange that Margaret should fear it, since her only sexual desires led to rape.

Well sperm is often referred to as "seed", not eggs, so it could also mean that now Carrie is a woman, she may desire men, sex and "seed".

In the book, Margaret's mother (or grandmother) has the same powers as Carrie.

While we're on the topic of lyrics from Carrie, am I the only one bothered by a plot hole in them? Carrie says in the title song "Momma says suffering is good for the soul," meanwhile Margaret states "I would rather die than see you suffer," in Evening Prayers. Yes, it's stupid to notice, but it's always kind of bothered me.

You didn't know about that? Didn't Linzi sing Carrie that night too? It was left off Betty's album due to the orchestra being pretty off in some sections but bootlegs have been floating around.

CJ, I don't think that's a plothole. Margaret SAYS she'd rather die than see Carrie suffer, but has no problem knifing her to death. She loves Carrie, but she knows what will hurt her and does not shy away from doing it if she thinks it's God's will.

Ah, that makes sense. In a twisted, evil, depressing way. I guess I cut the religious zealot part of her too much slack...
