There are some truly sad ways to kill Rapunzel.
In the production I staged, the cast buried her in flowers while the Witch sang the lament. It was absolutely beautiful and had the audience in tears.

People who've seen the film have said that it is still very dark and not Disneyfied nor is it sanitized, and that Rapunzel's death cut is not that big of a deal...so I'm going by the people who have seen it...

No one is outraged. Am I not allowed to discuss my opinion if it's not praising this film? Like I ALREADY stated, I never said keeping her alive doesn't work within the context of the show.

Kad, they are not the same. The rest of the film keeps everything else the same in basic intention and meaning, but not Rapunzel and the Witch in the last part. It's not the same.

And I still stand by them, for a helicopter parent like The Witch, her child only finding true happiness away from her is a fate worse than death.
If you don't believe that concept, and that no matter what, death is the worst thing, then you won't buy into it...

I also think that self-loathing and misplaced anger is a much more interesting source for the rest of The Witch's actions than simply revenge.


That being said, there are also spoilers out there that say Rapunzel does NOT ride off with the prince, and simply rides off in her insanity.
If THAT is true, then I agree that she should NOT survive.
If Rapunzel living doesn't serve to teach the Witch the lesson that she was actually the worst thing to happen to her daughter, then Rapunzel should die to hammer home the "Nobody is safe." sentiment.

At this point, the movie is complete. We know there are changes from the stage version. So enjoy it for what it is. Appreciate what you will like about it (that they even put those in). Then move on.

On the poster with Daniel Huttlestone as Jack, did they screw up the lyrics or was that on purpose?
aren't the lyrics to Giants In The Sky, "And you know things now that you never knew before." The poster says "and you know things now that you've never known before."
Was this on purpose or were the lyrics changed?

Well, that was just everything I wanted it to be and more. I will admit to being a diehard Streep fan, one who is able to acknowledge her oversaturation and trademark Streepiness, but what a wonderful performance of that song, vocally and acting-wise. And she looks just fantastic.

I get more and more excited for this every day. Can't come soon enough.

After watching that amazing clip, it's obvious that Meryl Streep is going to slay the competition just like Anne Hathaway did in LES MISERABLES.

That clip was brilliant. Unless Meryl screws up the rest of her performance, she'll be recognized during awards season. Probably an Oscar nomination for this as well.

I'm overwhelmed by her "Stay With Me."

It may be my favorite interpretation of it yet.

I never really much cared for Bernadette Peters' "witch" in the original production but I have to say that Streep is winning me over more and more with each and every clip I have seen. Then again, this is the actress who made me love MAMMA MIA! and I absolutely hated that show!
