They should get Isabelle Allen for little red or they could go with one of the Matildas.

They should consider Nolan Gould (Modern Family) for Jack.

After seeing the PBS "Carousel" yesterday, I hope there is a role in this for Jessie Meuller. She has "star" written all over her.

She could be a stepsister, or if the Hollywood "decision makers" grow some balls and stop trying to "star f*ck" with their casting, she could be a terrific Cinderella.

She has a deliciously "interesting" look (and I mean that in the best possible way), she photographs well, and she acts up a storm and sings like an angel.

But no, we'll probably get some bleating lambs who have to be auto-tuned as Cindy and her sisters.

"They should consider Nolan Gould (Modern Family) for Jack."

He sang "Music of the Night" on a Modern Family episode last month and had a lovely singing voice and he certainly has the comedic chops for the role and he is the appropriate age.

Mueller is a star in every way, she captivated me in CAROUSEL. She needs time off so she can star in a FUNNY GIRL revival though.
Actually, it'd be great if after the success of LES MIS (and the casting of an unknown as part of a larger ensemble), they'd be open to cast Mueller as Cinderella, though I think Anna Kendrick would be perfection too.

EDIT: Matthew Morrison says here that he is excited about an upcoming film musical he's doing, let's hope it's not INTO THE WOODS.

^ If it is this film and he's one of the Princes, meh not my first choice at all. But I guess it could've been worse. He sang classical music very well like the score of 'South Pacific'. Plus he also did 'The Light in the Piazza'.

Mueller was all wrong for Cinderella.
She's a character Actress.
I don't think her face would read too well on the big screen. She was terrific as Carrie but her close-ups were not flattering.

IMO, you can't go "out of the box" with Cinderella, she needs to be the fairest at the ball.

Good, Morrison is MISS SAIGON, not INTO THE WOODS. I guess the Princes are supposed to be, well, wooden, but Morrison is so so boring I'd hate to see him involved. I did like him in LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, but his acting on GLEE (the only screen acting I've seen him do) has consistently been dull as dull can be.
Curtain, I disagree with you re Cinderella in this particular version. The role was written for a character actress, Kim Crosby wasn't some pretty ingenue, she was quirky, funny, unconventional looking and had a gorgeous voice...sounds a lot like Mueller (whose looks I find incredibly beautiful). I always bought her as Cinderella because she had that "it" factor, I bought that the Prince would pick her from a group of girls who look like clones. Laura Benanti, who by all accounts was top notch, was considered an ingenue but she's really a character actress and has excelled in that kind of role. I do have friends who disliked her as Cinderella and said she was miscast, but I don't know that it's because she wasn't "pretty."

So if James Corden confirmed he's still in talks for the movie, and he played the Baker in the reading, does that mean that Johnny Depp will be one of the Princes/the Wolf?

Morrison reads too old for a screen version of Miss Saigon now.

I'll bet he's one of the princes in Into the Woods.

... and I'm still hoping Depp is the Wolf, not the Baker.

EDIT: Although, part of me thinks the Wolf will end up being some sort of computer-generated creature.

I think Morrison even reads too old for one of the Princes.

In some odd version, could James Corden be considered for Jack?

But until the movie announces who's on page..allBWW experts claim this person/that person is getting the role but mark my word(5/2@ 1045 set people will be suprised)..most of the key roles have been filled..trust me it's all a done deal!

This is like the rumors of Taylor Swift playing Eponine in 'Les Miserables' all over again. Nothing will be clear until we get official confirmation from Disney, the director, or producers.

And contracts are often not finalized until mere weeks before filming. You won't have a complete cast list for this movie until this fall - and probably not until all the actors are actually on set.

For what its worth, Into the Woods is still an obscure musical. Sondheim fans may love it but its not big outside Broadway. For Disney to okay this, they will want the biggest names working. Writers, directors, actors. All of it. It's not a show you can do wrong. The show deserves the best. Its also a movie. It needs to be treated as such.

I think RENT is the lesson learned.

For what its worth, Into the Woods is still an obscure musical. Sondheim fans may love it but its not big outside Broadway.

It's the most licensed and produced in the world of all Sondheim musicals (music and lyrics). That includes Sweeney Todd, Company, Forum, Sunday, Follies, Night Music, etc.

Into the Woods is #1.

As Judy Garland demonstrated in Annie Get Your Gun, we can never assume anyone will be playing a part until we see the film at its premiere.

However, there is fun in speculating and discussing who will be playing what and imagining what could have been.

I still wish someone else would play the Witch.
