I follow Leslie Kritzer on Twitter and noticed she and Darren Ritchie are tweeting each other about a show they'll be doing together in North Carolina after the holidays that is then transferring to Broadway. The only Broadway bound/aspiring show that I heard would be in NC is Nerds, the Bill Gates/Steve Jobs musical comedy. I didn't realize the NC thing was going to be an out of town tryout so maybe I'm on the wrong track?
I saw it fivish(?) years ago in Philadelphia and thought it showed promise. I don't think everything worked then, but I remember finding it funny. Steve Jobs was alive and well when I saw it, so I'm curious if his death is mentioned in the show now.
Well it certainly seems likely Nerds is the show in question. Leslie will have to do a quick turnaround from Elf.
If they're anticipating a Broadway transfer after NC, I just hope they don't go into one of the cavernous theaters. something about this show just doesn't strike me as being meant for the St. James (for example).
I'm sure it's a bit of a pipe dream at this point, but if they're talking about Broadway (which they have been for years with this show,) I'm assuming they're aiming for the fall of next year.
Kritzer is already committed to doing THE MEMORY SHOW at the Transport Group this coming April, so she must be doing ELF and NERDS and that show back to back to back.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
According to Darren Ritchie, Diana DeGarmo is also in the cast.
