Again, "talentless" is harsh.

I did not hear a SINGLE operatic note in that video... what exactly do you think "opera style" means? I'm really curious...

I'm sorry what's the hub bub about, I think she's good. To each their own! She;s doing something right, leads in Wicked and Legally Blonde, you're right, she's dreadful! Please, we're nieve to think it's only the director that has a say in the casting, it takes millions to put up a show, i.e. Rebecca's current woes, there's lots of investors behind them who have a lot of say! She wouldn't be where she is if she was as horrible as you all are making her out to be! Let the poor girl sing, it's not like you're jumping on a plane to Australia anytime soon anyway!

To go along with bwaylvsong, there is a big difference between singing operatically and singing in head voice. Nothing in that clip was opera at all.

I am in Australia I live there. I am shocked on the poor talent we choose for shows. When you look at Sherdian it makes me blush. Why not her ? why can't we have her in a show?

To further prove to each is own, I dare say, Sheridan Smith and who ever played Paulette in London do not even compare to Laura (who had her own issues, case and point, the MTV recording) and Orfeh. Paulette on the London recording is boring as sin and doesn't even belt at all, London, Ruthie Henshall would've rocked that out! Different standards in other countries I guess. After all, Ashlee Simpson played Roxie in London, but not in the US? Why?

I actually think the uk cast is the best and got awarded as such

Phillytheatreguy10, Ashlee Simpson played Roxie in CHICAGO on Broadway in November of 2009 through February of 2010.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Well, I thought this was going to be a thread about MCC's annual benefit, and instead I find it's a trivial discussion about an unknown actress in an awful role at some podunk theatre and I don't even care enough to finish this sentence

Trivial, without a doubt. Inappropriate for this board, absolutely. But nonetheless the same podunk theatre that gave Broadway Hugh Jackman, Anthony Warlow, Tony Sheldon, Rachel Griffiths, Toni Colette and Caroline O'Connor.

at some podunk theatre

Burnnnn...

Although it is certainly unknown on this forum, this isn't some random regional theatre production in central America - it's Sydney's largest theatre and this production is directed by Jerry Mitchell himself.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

"... the same podunk theatre that gave Broadway Hugh Jackman, Anthony Warlow, Tony Sheldon, Rachel Griffiths, Toni Colette and Caroline O'Connor."

Is that the way theatres work in Australia? They own actors, and then give them away to other countries?
