LA MASTER CLASS ON COLLEGE AUDITIONS

Mark Simon, Casting Director for the Center Theatre Group, and Robert W Schneider, Professor of Musical Theatre at Penn State, will be holding three master classes in Southern California on August 11th and 12th.

College Auditions and Professional Prep seminars are $40.00 and the Auditioning seminar is $50 or you can purchase all three for $100.00

YOUR COLLEGE AUDITION: Do you plan to audition for college theatre programs? This two-hour seminar, led by Professor of Musical Theatre, Robert W. Schneider, will offer participants a look at what those behind the table are seeking and what you need to do to land a callback. Filled with up to date information, the class will include topics such as choosing the right school, the correct way to construct a resume, selecting strong material, building a songbook, avoiding audition traps, financial aide and how to interview with the faculty. Both straight theatre and musical theatre will be discussed.

THE BUSINESS OF THE BUSINESS: As any successful actor will tell you it takes more than just talent to land the gig. This two-hour seminar, led by Professor of Musical Theatre, Robert W. Schneider, will strengthen the marketing skills of each participant. The class will include such topics as social media, website construction, resume construction, headshot selection, tax write offs, selecting an agent, selecting audition material, wardrobe selection and working in stage, film and television.

AUDITIONING: One of the most important skills in acting is the most elusive: How to Audition. This four hour seminar, led by Professor of Musical Theatre, Robert W. Schneider, and Center Theatre Group Casting Director, Mark B. Simon, will offer valuable insight on what those behind the table at professional auditions want out of their actors. Participants are asked to prepare either a 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song, or, a monologue less than sixty seconds. Accompanist is provided (no a capella singing or pre-recorded music)

BIOGRAPHIES

ROBERT W. SCHNEIDER- Robert is a freelance director working all over the United States and Europe. He currently has actors in Newsies, Wicked, The Book of Mormon, Chicago, Ghost, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Mary Poppins, Rock of Ages, The Lion King and countless others. Having directed over 100 shows in the past ten years, Robertís most recent accomplishments include directing such off-Broadway shows as All Fall Down, Unsung, Dialing for Donna and The Random Black Girl Cabaret, observing Tony Award winner Judith Ivey on Vanities at the Second Stage Theatre, assisting Susan H. Schulman (The Secret Garden, Little Women), directing workshops of new musicals at the Walnut Street Theatre, UCLA School of Theatre and the USC School of Theatre, became a leading innovator of integrating theatre into online educational environments, publishing two drama anthologies and becoming a prominent speaker on Professional Prepearation in the 21st Century. He is the proud recipient of the 2011 Planet Connections Theatre Festival Best Director award, the Robert Leonard Award, the Jerome Lawrence Best Director Award (awarded by Gordon Davidson and Paul Mazursky) as well as countless others.
