LOL - I thought I was giving just a silly comment as Kenwright is bringing almost all ALW's shows to the rest of the country these days. Didn't know it was actually going to happen.
Nope, I have heard the rumour, although it should hopefully be the majority of the West End production. I think kenwright gets a hard time much of the time, however if all ALW shows go via him now it means we will never see a full scale ALW West End production on the road again. Both Evita and Joseph closed and neither did a major tour, only the Kenwright versions (which in the case of the former I actually liked much more).
The relaunch version of Joseph did do a major tour with the crane lift at the end and set before it went back to the original BK version which I did see last year and was looking a bit ropey. I thought the reason the revival Evita did not tour was due to the set which would have had to have a change and loss of height to fit other theatres - however as you say the BK version of Evita actually does a better job and certainly handles the second act better. If it wasnt for BK productions there would be a lot of empty theatres most weeks.
^^ I dont disagree, I think Kenwright does an excellent job on the whole. But there was no reason why the last West End revival with Lee Mead couldn't have toured and maybe replaced his cheap touring version (his worst touring show in my view). The Palladium version toured back in the 90s.
I just hope where possible, when an ALW show gets a big West End production, it does tour. Or Kenwright does some just Number 1 venue tours now and again. As his shows are designed for so many venues, when it hits one of the big ones it sometimes looks small and cheap
Will be interesting to see what Kenwright does with WIW, LND and Sunset. A little more investment in sets and quality cast (especially as his prices seem to have rising recently) is all they need.
