Anyone else watch HBOs latest white comedy? White actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus is hilarious and even though the show in no way depicts REAL life, the way REAL people live in Washington, i thought the writing was excellent.
Everyone is aware that "Sutton Ross" used to go by "Sue Storm". Right?

I wasn't a big fan. Most likely because I was expecting the main character to be more like Leslie Knope. I will watch because I had a similar reaction to Arrested Development which I now love.

When she referred to him as "a dead", I peed a little.

Armand Ianucci's characters are not so much Leslie Knopes but Ron Swansons with no frontal lobe. Look for The Thick of It and the film In the Loop to gage what his characters are about. Good stuff.

And I cannot believe the child actress from My Girl has grown up to say wonderfully irreverent dialogue.

If they're smart they'll get Macauley Culkin in there with a sex scandal.

I think Louis-Dreyfuss should and will walk away with another Emmy for this FANTASTIC performance. She's a knockout. She's doing what it took Amy Poehler (and her writers) about a season and a half to get right. She's balancing the reality with the comedy just perfectly.

I'd love to see this recognized in some other categories- Outstanding Comedy Series, writing, supporting actor and actress.

Really such a great watch. Cannot wait for another season.

I really liked it too. My only complaint is I wish the season was longer!

I was actually going to comment about the same thing. I wish it was more than 8 episodes. "Nicknames", "Tears", and "Catharine" were probably my favorite episodes. JLD killed (Selina's reaction to Jonah telling her POTUS is giving her obesity as her new pet project needs to be in the Emmy reel) and Tony Hale and Anna Chlumsky were perfect in their roles.

"She cannot fall asleep on live TV! Not on C-SPAN, the irony would be too huge."

I still laugh at her reaction to the Viagra Prohibitor nickname.

It's been full of delicious dialogue so far. Here's a link to IMDB with some of the best lines listed so far:

Loving this show. I think I actually prefer it to Thick of It and I usually prefer the original British versions. (Yeah, I know Veep isn't an adaptation of Thick, but same themes, same type of humor, same creator..)

I love that the show isn't afraid to get dark either. I got chills when Selena convinced Amy that she was going take the fall on the pregnancy story and pretend that she had a miscarriage.

Really enjoying it thus far. A viable replacement for the brilliant New Adventures of Old Christine.

No, HBP... you're not alone.

Never cared much for shows that depict a pseudo-realistic political world. Actual politics and politicians are far more interesting and entertaining.

You see, I really appreciate the realism and attention to detail. I love Parks & Rec but this season just appeared like they were making stuff up as they went along with what exactly are the rules for a local department head running for elected office.

The offices in Veep look exactly like the offices I interned at The Hill with doors in every room and unkempt cubicles. Heck I have been at parties for people in the Senate and Congressional offices for weirdly specific issues (though not quite corn starch versus plastic) that are fully catered but maybe have just over two-dozen people there. Nobody is really dressed to the nines but rather in the most conservative formal to business casual most of the time.

As for the story lines, yeah bills actually do suddenly become high stakes and bills just suddenly die and are never talked about again. It just happens that way but I thought the show did a good job of making sure that what seemed to be story-lines swept under the rug, like the bills themselves had consequences like the pregnancy story line and Dan's involvement with the McCauley amendment.

The only misstep is the caricature Washington Post journalist. I guess since they had Frank Rich with a producer credit they did not want a sage-like portrayal but I just thought it was over the top.

This week's pig roast episode was genius. I don't think I've laughed that hard in a long time.

It's my favorite comedy right now. I have friends who don't like it because there is no character development, but I don't think that's a drawback for this show. Maybe it will get old after a few more seasons, but right now I'm loving it.
