Saw this yesterday and absolutely loved it, the perfect antidote to a grey drizzly London. Our first trip to the Union too, but we’ll definitely be back for Jekyll and Hyde next month. If you’re interested, further ramblings are at the link

Can't say I loved it but I was certainly entertained. The young cast is a mixed bag but Jenny Perry is a name and a voice to watch for. Her high-powered The Lady Is A Tramp deservedly stopped the show.

There's some terrific tap dancing and, of course, one of the greatest of the Rogers and Hart scores but the book has always been a problem and still is. They're using the George Oppenheimer revised version which cuts the offensive material (the 1937 book featured a southern racist producer trying to keep black kids out of the show!) but rewrites the plot and eliminates much of the off-handed sophistication of the original.

A bit bland, then, but fun.

Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!

Five minutes in the show, I didn't think I would agree with you Mallardo, but the book is definitely a problem and watching the show I found my mind beginning to drift on to other consideration away from the show, like do I need to stop off to get some milk on the way home, only to find my mind refocused back to the show by the excellent songs and choreography, especially with the first song with the excellent use of suitcases and the end, with the carousel routines, the choreography was to a very high standard for a fringe production. The performances were very good also, it was just the weak book that dragged the show down.
