Hey guys,

I just had a great idea that I am about to implement. I want to create an online streaming service where one can watch Broadway and off Broadway shows. Most people who don't live in entertainment capitals don't have the chance to enjoy these beautiful shows. So I am going to put cameras in major theaters and stream all the videos online.

Would you guys pay for a service that allows you to watch the play in HD quality. You have to pay for each play you watch, but a lot cheaper than an actual live show.

Can you please tell me if you would use this service?
Any suggestion? How much would you be willing to pay?

It's not a feasible idea- good, but not feasible/possible.

I don't think that it copyright laws as well as Equity would allow for this. However, its a great idea. I would absolutely pay for such a service.
I regard the theatre as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another the sense of what it is to be a human being. ``oscar wilde``

That's a wonderful idea, but, unfortunately, sooo beyond illegal. And honestly, as much as I adore the idea (like, you have NO idea how happy that would make me), I wouldn't want my name associated with it. :/ You COULD petition the idea to an already established company (For example, Netflix) that they could add it to their services. But, I wish you luck! :)

You would not be granted permission to film. Why would a b'way house allow someone else to make money from their product?

Nothing replaces live theater -- especially a camera.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Sorry to say but you're not the first to think of this idea. They've actually filmed a couple of shows and can be found on netflix such as Memphis, Cats, Into the Woods, Company. And as said before I don't think you'll be able to do it due to copyrights, unless you're like buddy buddy with the people at the gershwin. And if you happen to be, well then hook me up with a job!
