I think I'll take you on that bet. I said he's one of the more enjoyable parts of the show but that doesn't mean he's anywhere near earning himself a win or even a nomination. I really think Smash will get overlooked.

Sueleen, if they put Smash in the Comedy/Musical category rather than the Drama category, he's going to have to compete with all of the men from Modern Family. I don't see that working out for him.

They don't sing and dance on Modern Family.

But they do tell jokes that the majority of viewers find funny. This is not the Golden Globes we're talking about. The Emmy committee doesn't usual choose flash over quality.

Regardless, this will have to be in the DRAMA categories. People cry too much on this show for it to be considered a COMEDY!
Do you think they will be allowed to perform on the telecast?

Smash may be overlooked at the EMMYs but i think that Angelica Huston is a certain thing in the supporting category, as well as some guest actors (Uma Thurman for example)

Well, if Huston is a "certain" it can't be "overlooked".
Please are they going to concoct some way to have Angelica do a musical number?

Sorry, this thread is about PATSC, not SMASH, but sometimes you just have to hijack a thread to be heard.

When we say Christian Borle is a lock for featured actor we are forgetting that One Man Two Guvnors is opening on Wednsday and will likly get raves and Tom Edden literally steals that show with his physical humor as Alfie, he literally throws himself down a flight of stairs at least 5 times during the show...

It's not big enough of a role to get a nomination. Oliver Chris, however, will be nominated and will be Christian's biggest threat for the award. I still think the award is as good as Christian's though.

Saw Peter Saturday matinee and had one of the most enjoyable times of this season. Borle is fantastic -- we were sitting close enough to see that he was sweating up a storm but he certainly deserves any prize he gets. The whole thing was a delight, IMO.

apparently none of you have seen Andrew Garfield in Death of a Salesman -- he tears the audience's heart out at the end -- he's winning the Featured Actor Tony...

Saw it too and found it to be a beautiful piece of theater. However, I strongly believe that their marketing needs a serious overhaul if it's to appeal to the appropriate audience. After complaining about the dozen+ young children I saw in the audience, and catching the TV spot later in the evening, I'm not surprised they were there at all.

The commercial and all the publicity materials are quite representative of a juvenile show, which this is not. And although visually appealing to children, its content is not at all appropriate for their demographic. I even saw a number of these families leave part-way through the second act, I'm assuming out of disappointment since the performance did not reflect the Disney-esque theatrical production they were expecting?

What age are you talking about? I think this would be appropriate for anyone over 10.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Over 10 absolutely!
I'm talking about the multiple 4 and 5 year olds scattered throughout the audience.
