Davine was in last night.

And I prefer Moya having now seen both.

Those of you who saw the show these past two nights, has there been any changes to the opening scene? There was a rumor going around that they were changing the opening of the show...

Moya is brilliant.

well, opening night isn't scheduled for another month(April 23). If Moya continues to regularly play the role(4-5 times a week), then I'd say replace Da'Vine.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I agree. Moya was fantastic in the role when I saw her in it as well.

So yeah, Moya was in on the 24th. At the stage door she said that Da'Vine was supposed to be there for the evening show, but I haven't heard if she was or not. Moya, though, was FABULOUS and I definitely say they need to promote her if Da'Vine is going to be out this much.

Moya owned every minute on that stage. She was brilliant. Her physicality and comedic chops were top notch. She also sang the hell out of "Im Outta Here" and she made me cry during her final scene with Molly.

I've spoken to friends who saw Da'Vine the first night and said she was phenomenal. However, they did tell me as well at the stage door she told them that she has a throat problem which was stated earlier in the thread. The fact that you are all saying Moya should be promoted is truly disrespectful. I understand we all can have our own opinions but Da'Vine is unfortunately quite ill currently and her performances over the past couple of days have shown it. There are many viruses going around and she might have caught one.

I do have to say that I saw Moya on Saturday's matinee and I was impressed by her performance. I do think that she made a great Oda Mae based upon the view we have of Whoopie from the movie. I don't think she was fantastic but I could see her being a replacement in the future. I am going back soon to see Da'Vine but based upon my friend's reactions and videos on youtube of her I can tell she is better than Moya. Good Luck to both of them with their new hot broadway show!

I completely agree with Greg here. Da'Vine had a successful though limited run in London before New York, and her training, in addition to the story of how she landed the part tells how much confidence the creative team has in her.

Many performers on Bway have been ill lately, with both flu and vocal problems. Jeremy Kushnier filled in several times before and after opening of JCS for Josh Young. I am a die-hard Kush fan, having worked with him when he was a Swing in the Toronto production of RENT. He was phenomenal then and he's even moreso now. While I have yet to see him in JCS, many have said he was better than Young. That being said, it doesn't entitle him to the role simply because he was good, got great reviews, while Young was sidelined with an illness or vocal problems.

The same goes for Moya. Again, though I have yet to see her, I understand she is phenomenal. But that doesn't mean she should be promoted into the part, replacing Da'Vine, just because Da'Vine has had ill-timed health problems. That's like saying a substitute teacher deserves to take over the job of the teacher s/he is filling in for because the kids like the sub more. Total B.S. reasoning.

The generous and human thing to do is wish Da'Vine a full recovery, allow her to get back on stage and cement herself in the role with audiences. She deserves well wishes.

She was back in the show tonight, and incredible. She had us in stitches. I've seen Moya in Dreamgirls so I'd say that Moya might have a stronger singing voice, but Da'Vine really captured the character's comedy.

I must say that when Moya hit herself in the head with the tambourine in the ensemble, the audience went nuts. That was a highlight for me.

from what I've been told, Da'Vine has been in every show this week so far. Let's hope she's 100% through opening night at least.

Da'Vine was in tonight. She was a welcome relief in the show and the audience was loving all of her scenes.

THe Subway Rap (Focus) is there, but it didn't bother me because the scene itself made a lot of sense, since it's really not presented as a song (even though it's listed in the program).

The audience seemed to enjoy the show, there were a lot of people in tears around me at the ending and I think the woman beside me crapped herself at every pepper's ghost effect.

I thought the show was OK. Wasn't bad, wasn't great, but just there. I enjoyed Caissie and Richard. The projections are all there still and I think they can find a better opening for the show. I thought it took too long to get things moving in that opening scene.

They still have a month of previews so who know what will change.

I honestly don't think the projections will go anywhere. It is such a huge part of the show (not saying that it adds to the plot but it is just there) and for them to remove it and do something else with it would be doing something like what Spider-Man did and taking 3 weeks off to completely revise the show.

Besides changing lines and lyrics and maybe choreography, I honestly don't see them making any drastic changes to the show from now until opening night.

I also agree that the beginning of this show is Mundane. When the action takes off it's a good show, but if left me sitting there thinking "what is so good about this damn show?" for at least 20 minutes.

Saw the show tonight, too. Was better than I expected and Da'Vine Joy Randolph certainly takes the show to another level whenever she's onstage. Too bad she's not out there more. The lead are all terrific and the production has many innovative moments and it is well-done.

My biggest disappointment was the music and lyrics. In a new musical, isn't that what it should all be about? The songs never soar and some of the lyrics are awful. My sense is some musicians feel that can simply write songs for a show, but none in this show won me over and that's a big problem.
