Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are to play mother and daughter in 'August: Osage County'.
Key casting has been confirmed on the forthcoming Weinstein company adaptation of 'August: Osage County', according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The play, about a pill-popping matriarch and her rackety family, will be adapted for the screen by Tracy Letts, who won a Pulitzer prize for the work.
In the director's chair is John Wells, whose credits include 'The Company Men'.
The play was optioned by the Weinsteins shortly after its stage premiere. "I've loved the writing since I was given a 240-page script for a three-hour play that starred nobody, that had no workshop," said Weinstein at the time. "My reaction was similar to the feeling I had when I read Quentin Tarantino's script for 'True Romance'. Tracy has that kind of voice."
