just got the LND dvd. i was surprised to find it in the shops here. it's quite good. the issues with the book remain, but the staging is far superior to London, it's beautifully filmed and the orchestra sounds great. quite enjoyed it.

A friend of mine who has it in Australia said thee were far too many close ups of everything and it took away the sheer size of the production in the big numbers. He did enjoy it tho.

couldn't disagree with that,but compared to what I saw at the Adelphi it was a vast improvement. it's not flawless, but much better. I was surprised they had it already here in the shops in Italy.

I suppose the close-ups take away the "filmed in a theatre" feel. I suppose it also takes away the feeling how big the production is

Thats exactly what he said but that is a problem with any filmed theatre performance.

For me, Barnum is still the best recording of a book show I have seen.

I agree, also 'Smokey Joes Cafe' is a great recording, really captures the brilliance of the production. That is more of a filmed concert tho. I will admit I watch it every few weeks, such a great feel good dvd.
Its highly requested by visiting friends, theatrical or not!

I agree Mamma, 'Smokey Joes Cafe' is a great capture of the show. As for LND? I would rather poke myself in the ears and eyes than have to sit or hear this show again
