That was really hard to get through.

It's been hit or miss with this one. Loved the first and third episodes. The second and fourth fell terribly flat.

They've yet to figure out where the dramatic tension is coming from...

I liked it, plan to tune in next week. The thing with NBC is they NEED a hit so they'll keep it around till its right. None of their "big" shows are doing well in the ratings and they're still around.

The director's a piece of sh*t. I find it boring and formulaic to have the asshole director be a careless, unfeeling bastard Brit.

I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

Please it was not bad. Last week was plain awful, this week was enjoyable.

and THIS is the episode that critics say gets the ball rolling? Sophomoric at best. The intervention scene could have not been more hokey and unreal. I don't know who the boy was in the dancing trio/quartet at the bar, but by having him in a hot pink shirt and out- dancing and outshining the women, was just a mistake.

And our assistant boy is now a part of the backup chorus at the party ? Made no sense.

too many villians in this show. And WTF is with Ivy?? The show is all over the place. Next week looks like they make Karen the new "Marilyn", or at least Ivy's u/s for now. But there's just too much BS in this show for it to be believable. I think I might be done with Smash.

"I hope Ivy Lynn gets hit by a bus."

What about that guy who hit Jan Maxwell. I hear he knows a thing or two about injuring a star... SMASH

I think the whole "Ellis is the background dancer"…I mean come on haven't we all thrown together a musical number? I mean really they pulled up a waiter.

That was a good episode. The plot was a little show in the last two weeks, but tonight was enjoyable. It also looks like the drama REALLY STARTS next week. Plus, I think no matter what happens with the series, Hilty has proven that she can a triple threat on Broadway.

Critics have said "gets the ball rolling". It's doing just that, it appears from the preview next week is going to get good.

I agree. Judging by the preview I think next week's episode will be when it finally gets VERY GOOD.

Sooooooooo so much better. What a difference a script writer makes. I'm willing to forgive episode 3 except the karaoke. More David Marshall Grant scripts, please.

Entertainment Weekly has some theories on why the program is not a "Smash".

"I don't know who the boy was in the dancing trio/quartet at the bar, but by having him in a hot pink shirt and out- dancing and outshining the women, was just a mistake."

That boy was Wesley Taylor, who brought the house down every single night when he appeared in Rock of Ages off broadway, in the role of Franz. And he was in a turquoise biker leotard, btw.

I don't care who he is or what he's done, he's annoying and overplaying it here.

Wes Taylor was the highlight of the episode for me, and I may be saying that because he's in my avatar. But, whatever.

Loved this episode. So much better than the last two.

What a coincidence that the best, most fully realized episode of the show is the first one not written by Theresa Rebeck.

Her completely inability to write for television is the show's biggest problem, and if it can get its ratings up enough to have any chance at succeeding beyond the first season, she has to get out of the way, take her creator/ executive producer credit, and be happy with it.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Lord, I just read the last few pages. What a surprise to see posters on BWW talk about something they don't find appealing as if it was the WORST most AWFUL thing in the entire universe!

I enjoy Wesley Taylor, for what it's worth, but I did find it odd that he was playing a character preaching the values of blending in when a member of the ensemble and yet, to me, it looked like he was working overtime to stand out in every musical number he was a part of.

Savannah Wise manages to be completely magnetizing without pulling any focus from anyone else. Take a lesson and don't pop the head, Wesley.

So Karen can't control her voice, over dances, is inexperienced to the point that she appears to have never been in a musical before, and believes that being an actress means being the center of attention all the time and if the previews are anything to go by, the conclusion is to...make HER Marilyn?

Farewell, Smash. Good luck with the ratings but it'll be Hawaii Five-O or Castle or the 10 o'clock news for me!
