This is a really lovely Anthony Tommasini article from today's NY Times about 82-year-old soprano Rosalind Elias, who plays Heidi in the Follies revival. When she says at the end, "You never know what’s around the corner. It is one more kiss that’s been given to me," she captures the ultimate spirit and true meaning of Follies.
I loved reading this! In a perfect world I want Elias to get a Tony nomination. It's not about how many lines one has, but the impact and impression on has on the show, and she truly does stop it cold. I love her even more now.
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Omg, I totally misread that. Thanks for the clarification. Glad she and her husband have lasted so long together!
I agree with Whizzer and I hope Rosalind get a tony nom. She is brilliant in this role and "One More Kiss" gives me chills every time I see/hear it. Can't wait to get the recording.
I've see seven productions of FOLLIES, including the original; and never has "One More Kiss" had the impact on me that it had when done by Rosalind Elias. Her performance is lovely to hear, but the difference that makes it so effective is the way Miss Elias acts it. She makes it emotionally devastating and central to conveying central themes of the show. Worthy of a Tony nomination? And how!
I so hope she gets a nomination. Incredible performancce and an absolutely delightful, grandmotherly, quiet/shy person in real life. In a perfect world, Elias, Paige, White, and Houdyshell will get nominations. But I know that's asking a lot.
FOLLIES needs to sweep the Featured Actress in a Musical category!
That would be something.
And I agree with beaemma. Rosalind Elias brings an emotionality to the song that was always there in the writing and intention but never so fully realized. I felt that way when I saw the show in CG, and I'm really looking forward to her moment when I see the show again on Friday.
