My friend and I are trying to think up of great Broadway duets for two women.....songs already suggested and shot down: "Take Me or Leave Me" from "Rent", "In His Eyes" from "Jekyll and Hyde", and "Nowadays" from "Chicago". We're looking for two contrasting songs, comical as well as something serious or dramatic.

You could do the obvious ones from Wicked - What Is This Feeling, For Good - or you could do The Apple Doesn't Fall from The Rink.

You might not want to look for the second one. In fact, don't.

But the first one, yes.

I'd check out anything that Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley have done on both of their duet albums. They did some great Broadway duets.
My favorites are:
"Perfect Strangers" (Mystery of Edwin Drood)
"I Know Him So Well" (Chess)
"I Will Never Leave You" and "Who Will Love Me As I Am?" (Side Show)
"Every Day A Little Death" (A Little Night Music)
"If Mamma Was Married" Gypsy
"Two's Comany" The Magic Show

You can do a same-sex take on YOU'RE JUST IN LOVE from CALL ME MADAM or ANYTHING YOU CAN DO from ANNIE GET YOUR GUN.

In the recent tour of Dreamgirls there was a version of 'Listen' inserted as the eleven o'clock number which was sung as a duet between Effie and Denna!

I know you want specifically duets for girls but 'You're The Top' could easily be sung between two girls.

Marry the Man Today - GUYS AND DOLLS

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I think Perfect Strangers is a great suggestion because it's a little different; a romantic duet written for two women but not necessarily sung by two women.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

"Flight" by Craig Carnelia, which Sutton Foster sings as a duet with Megan McGinnis on her solo CD "Wish," is a GORGEOUS dramatic duet.

Both comic songs:
"I Could Always Go To You" from PERSONALS - music by Alan Menken; lyrics by David Crane, Marta Kauffman, and Seth Friedman
"Moving Right Along" by Jeff Blumenkrantz was written for two men, but I have heard it work with two girls as well!

Both dramatic songs:
Peas in a Pod
and (if you want to use the other part)
Another Winter in a Summer Town

Both from Grey Gardens!

I'd like to also suggest Two's Company from The magic show
and another great comical one: "Casting call for a best friend" you can find it on YouTube, it's really funny
