I just want to profess my deep love for Kate McKinnon in light of the news of her casting in the female Ghostbusters movie alongside Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Leslie Jones.
Wow, just read that Eddie Murphey will be on the 40th Gala!

The NFL opener was not a full winner either. But over all I'd give it a a B+ / A-.

Simmons was game and is likable, but I thought it was pretty rough and uneven all around. Poor Leslie Jones, another likable presences, can barely get through a sketch without blowing a line, but her being cast in Ghostbusters has probably made her safe for a while. When the Casablanca sketch started, I figured it must be because Simmons does a good Humphrey Bogart, but once the sketch got going, I didn't think Simmons did a very good Humphrey Bogart. Pushie and The Jay-Z Story were the best of the night, I thought.
The Casablanca sketch was ALL about Kate, though.
And it was nice of them to let Vanessa actually participate in this week's episode.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
I was just thrilled that they brought Jebediah Atkinson onto Weekend Update. He is my favorite character by far on WU - one of my favorites in the history of the show - and he did not disappoint this week. I laughed the entire time he was on.
I loved the Casablanca skit as well. I though that was an instant classic.
As a teacher, I think they missed the mark on Teacher Snow Day - the only bit I found funny in that was the pantsless principal.
Otherwise, the show was very average to bad (what the heck was that Miss Trash skit?). But Jebediah on WU alone helped raise the epsiode for more. NEXT!

Hi, Shirley Temple Pudding.
I find myself checking this thread before watching an episode on demand.

I have such anticipation for tomorrow! Seems quite odd to be celebrating 40 years of SNL on a SUNDAY. I'm sure it is due to either logistics or ratings, but still, it seems wrong.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

CapnHook, Saturday is usually the least-watched night of the week. It's pretty common that SNL gets higher ratings than any show in Saturday prime time. Sunday is a big night for television watching, which is why the big shows (Super Bowl, Oscars, Grammys, etc) are on Sundays.
They've expanded the show to 11:30, so they must be anticipating very high ratings.

"What was the name of that cheese that I like?"
"you can't run away forever...but there's nothing wrong with getting a good head start"
"well I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, you'll walk in the room with my heart"
SNAFU have fun tonight!! Take lots of photos for us!
