All season long, I thought when it was over I'd rank them in order from best to worst, but I think I can just lump them in groups, because aside from the very best and the very worst, it's too hard to rate them one over the other, because they all have their pluses and minuses.

Very Best - Herstory of Dance
Episodes With More Good Than Bad - Paranormal Parenetage, Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations, Conventions of Space and Time, Economics of Marine Biology, Basic Human Anatomy
Middle of the Road - Alternative History of the German Invasion, Intro to Knots, Heroic Origins, Advanced Introduction to Finality
Pretty Not Good - Advanced Documentary Filmmaking
The Britta of Community Episodes - Intro to Felt Surrogacy

It's amazing how the #sixseasonsandamovie campaign was started with season 3. Now, we're getting season 5.

Absolutely! Even if he was only in a few episodes, it would be hilarious if they really did recast Pierce.

He could just be Pierce from a different timeline.

I also enjoyed last night's episode a lot. The ending only bothered me because I was so sure it would be the last episode. Knowing there was a very real possibility that would be the end, it seemed odd that there was no closure. So I'm super stoked that we are getting another season. Was this season perfect? Far from it. But I still love the characters and enjoy it more than a lot of shows on TV. I just hope whenever it IS officially cancelled that they give them enough time to work on a real ending.

A friend of mine just posted "Community" got renewed, which fills me with wild, cautious pessoptimism.

I would say that's how I feel, too.

And, as I predicted, it's not on their current fall schedule.

I for one am SHOCKED that Dan Harmon was invited back after Chevy quit the show. SHOCKED. The tweet says to thank Joel McHale, so good on McHale for making the workplace so hostile that Chevy couldn't hold his nose and show up for a paycheck. Now it'll be Community again, not Mildly Amusing Pop Culture Parody Half Hour.

Trentsketch, I think the absence of Chase is a minor factor at best in this decision - it probably made it easier for Sony and NBC to ask Harmon back, but I highly doubt it was a decisive factor. I also highly doubt that Joel McHale, who by all accounts is a really nice guy, did anything to make the workplace hostile for Chase. (Chase does a great job making things hostile himself.)

Basically, the fact is that this coming season will bring Community up to 97 episodes, which is close enough to 100 to work for syndication purposes, and Sony just wants those syndication dollars in the future while investing as little money as possible now. The three small factors that probably nudged the decision over the top:

a) The cast apparently rebelled at the quality of last season's scripts and asked for Harmon back
b) I imagine Harmon doesn't want to be known as someone who's too unruly to be hired, and so played nice
c) Sony would not be averse to having the show get its cultural cachet back (again, future syndication dollars)

And so we got the result we got. Which will hopefully turn out to be a great thing. (At the very least it'll turn out to be an interesting thing, which is more than I can say for most of last season.)
