I know there have been some recent cases of other networks saving a canceled show but I would not give my hopes up on that saving Community. Only NBC could tolerate such ratings (though they are setting it up for failure going on against one 'nerd' show in The Big Bang Theory and another genre show in The Vampire Diaries that is popular with the same people who tend to also watch Community). If there were a Community resurrection not on NBC, I would bet money it is on a big cable channel. With that said, I will happily just accept the news that they are filming new episodes.

And so help me, may one of those news comedies go down in flames so Community takes its spot. I avoided Whitney like the plague but had to watch it because my family likes it and likes Whitney Cummings (and they all think Community is pretty strange). Truth be told, I do like the actor who plays the boyfriend and got a kick out of the fact the guy who played Jonathan on 30 Rock was on there but it wasn't really special or funny at all.

I like those guys, too, but I can't deal with the show. I won't believe Community is dead until I hear it from someone at Greendale him or herself. Humanself!

There were two lines I really loved in Abed's rap - "On the spectrum? None of your business" and "if years were seasons, this December, would be the December of our December."

I don't want to live in a world without Community!

I'm really surprised that NBC has never played up the fact that Chevy Chase is in the show. You'd think that would be a huge draw for people to tune in and most people I talk to about it had no idea he was on a tv show every week.
Everyone is aware that "Sutton Ross" used to go by "Sue Storm". Right?

I remember they played up Joel McHale and to a lesser degree, Chevy when it first came out. In fact, the other players in the show that were semi-marketed, John Oliver (NBC loves those people from The Daily Show) and Ken Jeong (fresh off The Hangover), have pretty much been reduced or completely phased out.

Harmon and the writers just seemed completely go for full ensemble show after a few episodes and nobody at NBC's marketing bothered to realize this change. But I think only the character that went through any changes of note was Troy from 'jock' to nerd coming out the closet and hangin' with Abed. Otherwise, I think most of the characters have not changed beyond having some fleshed out nuance to them.

I just rewatched season 1 this weekend and Troy turning from Jock to nerd was really done in the first couple of episodes. Besides a few short references to it, all the characters were pretty set in stone by the third episode which is really rare.

I'm surprised BWW TV doesn't have a link to the songs from the Christmas episode. Usually if even five seconds of singing is done on a tv show they're all over it.

Well, it is good to know that somebody from the glee cast acknowledged the joke:

DarrenCriss Darren Criss
Haha the Glee-ful @nbccommunity Christmas episode was so good. Love those guys, such an awesome show. Really got me pumped for Regionals...

And now I am suddenly scared over Darren's welfare, particularly the breaks of his car. Harry Shum Jr. saw it too btw.

There is hope!!!!!

"After acknowledging that NBC had a "really bad fall," the network's entertainment chief moved swiftly Friday to assure viewers that "Community" and "Law & Order: SVU" aren't leaving.
Although the Thursday night comedy "Community" was taken off the midseason schedule, entertainment president Bob Greenblatt said that he wanted to "dispel any notion that it is quietly disappearing." He didn't say, however, when it would be back."

Not to be a wet blanket, but is there an any actual new information there? They've already said it would be benched and return at some point in the spring, but no date of return has been given.

Yeah but they're talking about it, so it's not like they're hoping people will forget about the show.

Any news (even repeated news) is good news to me.

The only new aspect is that it's Greenblatt saying it, rather than indefinite NBC sources. Which is...nice? I guess? But yeah, the only "new" piece of info is that Community's fate will be decided along with the rest of the schedule's in May.

Of course I still feel like any Community is good news and that I'm not losing hope until they say it's gone for good.

And even though it's neither Community nor Thursday night lineup related, I have to say that every time I see that Chelsea commercial where Chelsea Handler the comedian is talking Chelsea Handler the Laura Prepon character about Vinny Machado or whatever I feel like part of me dies inside.

^^^^^^^I feel adapting that particular memoir, actually all of what Chelsea Handler has written, would be better off on cable where the raunchier stuff can be safe. Also, in my head it worked better with Chelsea, the character, as an anti-Carrie Bradshaw show with the inner monologues that work better on single camera than multi-camera.

By the sound of it, that show is dead in the water anyway - maybe the total rehaul of the pilot worked, but any show that fired Natalie Morales isn't winning any points with me.

Pretty much the only reason we don't know when Community is coming back is because we don't know which spring show will crash and burn to make room for it and how long it'll take.

I really enjoyed the Glee parody Christmas episode. It gave a fun bit of singing, and using the Glee quirks mined some good visual (and auditory) humor. Also they mention in the season 1 DVD commentary, they share(d at least back then, I have no idea if it is still true) studio space with Glee and always had a good natured "rivalry" with the popular kids, so the show was really just expanding on that.

Greenblatt at least acknowledging the show's situation is a positive. Alan Sepinwall always has good Community info (and has been doing a segment every Thursday highlighting the show until it comes back) and his take is basically the same as ours on the current prognosis. http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-alan-watching/posts/press-tour-analysis-nbc-chairman-talks-community-smash-and-the-benefits-of-cable

I am still thinking they will burn off the rest of the season somewhere and the show will end, but that the episodes will be shown. Of course, I thought that about Chuck for about 4 straight seasons.

Nathan Fillion tweeted some pictures from the set today. I don't recall any announcement of him making a guest appearance, but I certainly hope he is!

Could it be?

I doubt that. He seems to do this often, visiting (crashing ) other sets. He took a few pictures with the cast from Chuck on their set without appearing in the show. I think he did it with Glee too; definitely some other show.

NBC sometimes does not really know what guest-star they should promote for this show so if Fillion is on the show, I could see how it went under their radar (and the fact they cannot really promote it properly until it is back on the schedule). I don't remember Josh Holloway's appearance in the paintball finale (and a Lost-Community fan cross-over is pretty significant) getting heavily promoted but Drew Carey as Jeff's old associate did get promoted by NBC.

That said, it is really not unusual for even TV stars to visit the sets of other shows, even on different networks.
