I know I recently joined Broadway World so forgive my ignorance but, wasn't Dirty Dancing supposed to come to Broadway? It's still playing in London and there seem to be a few shows transferring over here why not that one too?
High quality art it sure as hell ain't. However, will it put asses in seats? You bet. I am kind of surprised that they haven't gotten to Broadway as of yet already. It's been pure gold financially speaking everywhere else its played, it would be the same thing on Broadway as well.

I saw the tour twice at two different times during its Boston stop on the tour. I actually really liked it. It's a fun show that a built in audience.
I do remember there were talks last year of the show going to Broadway when the tour was over. There was an article in Verity I believe that was talking about how they were eyeing the Neil Simon Theatre for fall of 2009. However, during my second trip there they were collecting money for BC/EFA and I asked one of the cast members if they knew about any plans for the show to come to Broadway. They said that they might not come during the fall but might come sometime next year (meaning 2010) so who knows.

It was a terrible, terrible show, and the audiences eventually caught up with that fact, which is why it closed. There was no creativity involved. It was the film slapped up on stage in one of the must stupid and bizarre sets I've ever seen. The audience I saw it with in Chicago was pretty dumbfounded at how bad it was.
First, it's NOT a musical! It's a play with some songs. Some of them on tape, some live performd by 1 male and 1 female performer.
It playd in the Netherlands voor almost 1 year. But it wasn't a big succes. It's just a realy stupid play. Nothing really happens and there's just nog a lot of dance.. For something calld 'Dirty Dancing' there was just abou 5 minutes of Dirty Dancing in it.. Really dissapointing.
This has completely gone off the Broadway radar, maybe one of these shows that will play the West End only, bit like 'We Will Rock You' and 'Oliver' (Cameroon Mackintosh version).
bjh2114 pleased you are coming over to London, what else are you going to see?
I saw it last summer in London and completely enjoyed it. You all ready know going into the theatre that it's not "My Fair Lady" - it's not supposed to be. It's a fun night at the theatre.
nealb1 I totally agree with you. I know it's not high quality art but the two times I saw it in Boston people were walking out of the theatre with a smile on their face. Even spoke to a couple of people outside during intermission who were diehard fans of the movie and were enjoying every second of the show.
There is a fair amount of dancing in it and that made the audience happy. But, I do strongly feel that the point still stands that regardless of the location, this is a show that has managed to do good business at the box office and as a result I am surprised that it hasn't gone the Broadway route yet. The tour has proven that it can be successful in The States.

seems like a love it or hate it show. I know I was really hoping to see the tour come through Atlanta. I thought the tour was the pre-broadway production?
