Well, when they are dealing with prosthetic pieces that are so delicate, I think she would want the very best. Which is who she got.
And judging by this picture, I think I was right when I said she's going to have horns!

Well I'm witholding judgement on this one untill I see the movie when it comes out.
So far, the pros: Paul Dini is writing the script with Linda Woolverton so I guess they won't do to bad on this one.
The casting of Jolie as Maleficent is quite excellent and I heard from reports of people who saw some footage at D23, they say that she's got the role down, some thought she sounded ALMOST like Miss Audley (the original Maleficent).
The only con that's going on was that there was a leaked script (possibly by Woolverton) that has gotten alot of people infuriated and angry, but again, I'm holding judgement.
This movie may be better than Tim Burton's Wonderland disaster that's for sure...
And Woolverton wrote that script too. I'm beginning to wonder if she just got lucky with Beauty and the Beast.
I see that she also wrote The Lion King, which I had forgotten about. While it's a good movie, the script isn't nearly as strong as Beauty and the Beast.
"“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well."
I want to see the footage they showed at D23. I want to see her in action!!!
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)

That synopsis sounds like bullSH*T. Sorry, but I don't want to "understand" her and feel for her. If I'm going to learn her back story, I want to know how she became a F*CKed up woman who sold her soul to Satan. Trying to humanize Disney's most horrible villan is like seeing Freddy and Jason in diapers playing with Duplos.
Well, she's not really evil, you see. She was wronged. Now she will fight to do "good," because Aurora holds the key to peace in the land and her own salvation.
Will she save her in time? Can she defy gravity?
Maleificent, the superhero!

Rob Zombie tried that with his Halloween remake 6 years ago and it was a big misfire, IMO.
P.S. I agree the premise sounds like a Wicked knockoff. Even the title Maleficent (though it's the witch's name in the original animated film) means the same thing: "Harmful or evil in intent or effect."
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia
But with Oz the Great and Terrible (Disney's Wicked story of how the witches became the witches, thinly disguised as how the Wizard became the Wizard) and now Maleficent: Wicked II, the mighty mouse house has done everything it can possibly do to steal Oz away from Universal and make sure the actual, eventual film version of Wicked comes in a distant third.
They're trying really, really hard to make that happen.

I have a feeling it's going to be a great film to watch with the volume turned off.

It'll look, sound and come across like an album where a musical theatre performer goes mainstream. They look good, they sound good (I want to hear her Maleficent voice), but the material is absolute shi+.
