Anyone catch the latest episode of Family Guy tonight?

It had a pretty hilarious Starlight Express reference, with Peter starring in a community production. He roller skated around the stage while singing "Starlight Express" over and over.

I'll try to find a clip.

I haven't watched it yet, but did anyone else watch the new Sarah Silverman Program? I got a 'Last Midnight/Children Will Listen' vibe from Sarah's song about necks. Anyone else?

Wait, just outta curiosity, was Stewie's "Down Syndrome Girl" song a parody of something, or was it original? Because either way, all of Family Guy's musical numbers are phenomenal. Seth MacFarlane is a genius.

I don't think it was based on anything KirbyCat. I might be wrong though.

We can tie Chris' girlfriend to a Broadway star:

The woman who voiced Chris' girlfriend was Andrea Fay Friedman. The same woman who played Corky's girlfriend/wife on "Life Goes On", which starred Patti Lupone.

Oh, alright... That just shows how genius Seth's writing is.
While we're on the topic of the girlfriend- OH MY GOD. Sooo wonderfully terrible. I love how the creative team on that show just WANTS to be shot by people of every race, religion, or minority all over the world.

I loved the Starlight Express bit- I started laughing as soon as the cut away began.

And Stewie's song... hilarious!

I have to give them props for not doing the generic "all people with down syndrome are actually kindly and nice; it's the inside that counts" moral.

EDIT: Just realized the first clip doesn't include the whole song... The whole song is about 10:15 into the video. Updated On: 2/15/10 at 02:32 PM

I'm not even kidding.

I was watching the Olympics, but turned to Family Guy at the commercial, and just caught the Starlight Express bit. I've never laughed so hard since Roger sang "Xanadu" on Family Guy (hence my icon).

Between that and the German figure skating pair doing their routine to "Send In The Clowns", it was a really unexpected night for musical theatre fans!

Oops, I did. I typed too quickly. That, and I'm in the middle of downloading last night's episode of Family Guy on iTunes now to screen capture Peter in his "Starlight Express" costume!

I just watched this episode again last night, and there is something about the "Down Syndrome Girl" song that makes me keep thinking of The Music Man, specifically "Sadder But Wiser Girl". Am I going crazy or can someone else hear the connection as well?

Dean: Can I tell you something? Lorraine: That depends on what it is. Dean: I think you're really really pretty. Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.

Misto, I did kinda feel like it was the Music Man, but I do think it was a original.

Not Family Guy, but this Sunday's episode of American Dad is going to spoof/pay homage to August: Osage County

The most recent FG episode - Brian's Play is a great episode for theatre fans - complete with a great impersonation of Alan Bennett, and a fun Little Shop of Horrors reference.

I wanna see Seth Mcfarlane and his team mount a musical on Broadway, what hasn't that happened yet?

I do too. If Trey Parker and Matt Stone did it with such amazing results, then I can only imagine what Seth McFarlane can do.

Excellent news! I thought it may have been, but I didn't notice his name crop up in the comments.

Seth has stated he's simply too busy to devote his time to doing a stag show. He performs in London every year at our Proms, though.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfoTmiWsfD0 Here he is doing You've Got Trouble.
