Hey all- I'm trying to get tickets for West Side Story in mid-february. My mom is an entertainment link member and they have tickets for $90, 67.50 and $45. Being a college student I'm trying to spend as little money as possible but I don't want to be stuck behind a column somewhere. entertainment link says "balcony seating may be preferable" to rear mezzanine but other places have said the view is horrible from the balcony. Anyone been there and have any advice? I don't mind being far away, just don't want a seriously obstructed view. Thanks!!

The balcony really isn't THAT bad. I would say try the lotto, and if you lose, buy a ticket at the box office using the discount code you have. There will certainly be seats in mid-February.

thanks for the reply! I'm not sure if I can use that discount at the box office or if I need to buy online- I'll find out. It looks like we'll be going Feb 12 which is the Friday of Valentine's day weekend, I'm thinking that might increase crowds?

Yes, that weekend could indeed be busier. It's also the beginging of February vacation for many states.

And that's President's Day weekend, I believe. Three-day weekends are often busier.

In my experience, the balcony at the Palace is horrendous. There's a bar that goes across, blocking the entire stage, so the front row has to lean to see over it, then the row behind them has to lean forward to see over them, etc. The entire balcony is effectively partial view because of that bar. I'd avoid it if at all possible, but I also understand about spending as little as possible, so if it's your only way to see it, then do it.

I forgot that's President's day too and a lot of kids have off from school that whole week now (I never did!). I think I'll go with the advance tix online then- I would take my chances with the lottery or try tkts but I really want to see this show because someone I went to high school with is in it :) Plus even if tkts had WSS for 50% it's only a few dollars cheaper than the discount. I think I'll go with the mid-priced mezzanine tickets, this is not something we get to do a lot so I don't mind spending a few extra dollars if the balcony's that bad- just didn't want to shell out the money if the balcony haters were just being stuffy and nitpicky :)

Thanks everyone!!

Not only is it Presidents day, but Valentines day weekend too. It should be a busy weekend.
I once sat in the last row of the balcony for opening night of Liza's at the Plaza. Far back and way down, but no obstructions.
When I saw WSS I was to the right near the front orch. Josepina is so darned "pretty", I was glad to be up close.
I see you have checked for discounts, and I'd recommend you buy ahead.

anyone know anything about Row AA (first row) in Mez at the Palace? My memory is that it has a high railing.

I sat front mezz row AA center last summer and I thought the seats were fantastic with no obstruction. The railing isnt high at all. Even the guy at will call handing me my tickets, congratulated me on my great seats.

I sat in the middle of the very first row of the balcony, and the the bar didn't bother me at all. I didn't have to lean forward at all.
