Tim Burton's "Alice"--a sequel?
Posted: 12/16/09 at 01:26pm
This new trailer sets up the story as Alice's return to Wonderland--and the Red Queen (not, apparently, the Queen of Hearts) has taken over.

Hmm.

I thought it was a merging of both books.

I'm not at all sure. The dialog in this trailer seems to imply that it's a second visit, from a now 19-year-old Alice.

The Mad Hatter says "Alice, it's you. You're back . . . I'd know you anywhere." Then the Queen says "Alice has returned to Wonderland." Then the Hatter says "Since you've been gone, the Red Queen has taken over all of Wonderland."

So unless we're just seeing the second half of the film in the trailer, they must be referring to an earlier visit, no?

From IMDb -

19-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure, where she reunites with her old friends and learns of her true destiny: to end the Red Queen's reign of terror

Hmm. Who knew?

Yes, it's the same general idea as Hook. Alice goes back to Wonderland to save it from the tyrannical Red Queen. All the characters from before, such as the Mad Hatter, the Tweedles, etc. are revolutionaries, and Alice joins their cause.

From "Hook." The leader of the remarkably ill-conceived Lost Boys.

I don't see how it can be any worse than HOOK, one of Spielberg's numerous lowpoints.

I hope it is good. After the incredible brilliance of SWEENEY TODD, I can't say I'm terribly psyched to see him running for cover with a re-tread of Lewis Carroll, as this sort of thing seldom turn out well, that ridiculous HOOK being a prime example. That doesn't mean I won't go see ALICE as soon as I possibly can and keep my mind as open as I can.

Is the Burton movie based on The Looking Glass Wars then? It sounds a LOT like those books - the author is Frank Beddor.

CGIapalooza.

Is there one real thing in this movie?

Dante Basco was the least of the problems with HOOK.

I don't think it's based on The Looking Glass Wars...I read book 1 and had no desire to read the others. There was enough resolution to keep me happy.

Hook was one of my favorite films as a child but looking back I really have reservations of Robin Williams being Peter among other things.

^Pretty much the plot of SyFy's Alice, but with a stereotypical SyFy channel subplot about enslaving humans.

SyFy's Alice sucked. I forced myself to watch the whole thing.

I missed the first hour of the second part and decided it wasn't worth missing The Daily Show to watch the repeat at 11pm. It's also pretty much the same plot they used for Tin Man.

Well, I don't know if Disney or Burton counts this as a sequel to the book, 'Alice in Wonderland', but this film is apparently going to have a sequel.
