small cast musicals
Posted: 11/4/09 at 01:05am
looking for some small cast shows that are not completely obscure, but not too overdone either (charlie brown is out.) i'm also needing something that will go over well in a small town, conservative enviroment.

i recently came across clue the musical...just a thought...more shows would be greatly appreciated.

we just did into the woods last year, and i don't think sweeney would go over very well in my neck of the woods :)

and i'm talking a little smaller than woods. think an 8-10 person cast.

^^do you know the definition of conservative? I would hardly say a musical with a song about getting an erection would go over well in a very conservative town.

To clear things up, "Spelling Bee" is the one with the erection song.

"Lucky Stiff" is about a dead body.

I agree with Broadwaybaby077- The Fantasticks would be great.

Small cast, small budget, small orchestra- great songs, and very enjoyable

"Always...Patsy Kline" is a two person show. Although, it is more of a play with some songs written in to go along with it.

The Likes of Us? Depends on the actual size of your cast, but could work.

actually our theatre hasn't done any of those. thanks so much. i'm looking them all up as we speak.

ugh. our director wants to do the wedding singer. i am just not crazy about this show, and it doesn't quite go with the whole small cast thing he was so bent on earlier. he wants to do the drowsy chaperone, but rights aren't out. any news on when the rights come out on that one?

until then, i'm gonna keep searching and hopefully change his mind.

How about "Silver's Ghost" - cast of about a dozen but some could be doubled. Romantic war-time ghost story. The link is to the rights holders - follow navigation through "musicals" to "Silver's Ghost".

Just an opinion: Clue the Musical is the worst show i've ever seen. I'd look into Godspell for sure. :)

If you are looking for a show for a conservative community then The Wedding Singer isn't it, lol. I just finished that show last weekend and conservative it's not. It is a fun show though....
