Storing Theatre Programs/Ticket Stubs

What do you do???

Im in the process of emptying my bedroom and need a way to organise all my stuff.

Can you get (cheap) storage folders/boxes that are the right size for programmes and what wont make them all dusty.

Also ticket stubs, what to do with them? I saw some lovely binders in new york but alot of the london tickets wouldnt have fit into them.

Ticket stubs get stapled onto the first page of the programme.

Programmes go into cardboard magazine files in chronological order. Magazine files each for West End and different regional theatres.

Magazine files then go into a cupboard.

Very left-brained here.

And if the house burnt down the collection would be one of the most important losses, along with the family photographs.

Programmes go in plastic magazine files from Staples.



Tickets go - with leaflets, cast lists, understudy slips, and whatever else - in my scrapbook.



I'm about to fill my twelfth magazine file (on a big long shelf above my bed for handy access when I can't remember who did lighting for a particular production at 2am), and I'm halfway through my third scrapbook. XD I also have a largish plastic box from Ikea that I chuck spare leaflets in. I should really sort that out one of these days...

Can't say I have any particular dust problems. Maybe 'cos I'm forever dipping in and out of my programme collection?

ooo now I quite like the idea of stapling ticket stubs to the programs!

I couldn't keep the tickets separate from the programmes! I just couldn't! Sacrilege!

And cardboard A4 magazine files are cheaper than plastic ones from Staples.

I have four big airtight underbed storage boxes full of programmes, well, two have prgrammes piled in (in alphabetical and cast order of course!) one with various merchandise (T-shirts i dont wear or are now to small etc.) and one with leaflets and tickets, I simply put my tickets into plastic wallets, unfortunately, I do not have alot of space so I have to be creative about my storing methods, and this was the best i could come up with!

I buy my magazine racks in 4-packs for around £8 a set, and they are sturdy enough for my clumsiness and constant need to move things around. Cardboard ones wouldn't last a week in this house. XD

I don't mind keeping the tickets separate, because I enjoy taking time out of my day to Do Scrapbooking. The downside of scrapbooking is that occasionally I'll see a production that doesn't have any leaflets or other promotional materials (I generally stick the ticket in a corner and draw a lovely box around it rather than give it a whole page with nothing but the ticket; I occasionally have to get creative with promotional materials for some things as well!), and even more occasionally, I'll mislay something I need for sticking purposes, which is a bummer, but not the end of the world. It's fun, and I like doing it. :3

Well for now im going to keep everything up north apart from afew special programs and brochures which I like to look through occasionally (only 6 or 7). Keeping all the brochures with information in as might be helpful for my course.

In the future though I am definitely gonna use some of the storage suggestions on here. For leaflets I stick them onto my wardrobe doors covering them :). Took them all down today ready to move away!!!

I used to have them all over my walls at Uni! Floor to ceiling! Some large theatre posters as well, and photies of favourite people and places. It took me ages to do but having an attractive room at Uni is very important 'cos people will naturally gravitate towards it; as opposed to the skanky, scabby pits of the straight guys on either side of you. Thus you become Mr Popular.



I bet Mama is the only other person here who recognises some of those flyers.

I think I'm most organised with my CD's. Alphabetically categorised then sub categorised by year kept on a shelf right next to my bedroom door! I keep all my stubs in a photot album which is really boring too look at and all my programmes in this folder pouch...thing :S that's bursting at the seams so I think I may have to steal the idea of magazine files. All my brochures are in these horrifically untidy annoying-to-access box files ;_; i just hope the majority of those fit in the magazine folders too...

The Ticket stubs get put in the programme, and we have a large drawer that the programmes go in, just about to start a second drawer. Keep talking about framing our fave programmes and decorating the hall with them, but not got round to it yet.

All my programmes and brochures are stored in alphebetical order in two roll-top wooden music cabinets, one in my bedroom and one in my music room. Sheet music is relegated to lesser storage I.e under my wardrobe. I keep the tickets in the plastic wallet they come in (or put them in one) and keep them in the inside cover to each programme. I dont keep tickets in the brochures as they fall out much more easily. I have so many programmes now it is almost like a reference library to recent theatre!!!! It is my vice to collect the damn things and eBay therefore loves me for my custom!

Every single show I have seen since about the age of six has the ticket stub placed between the staples on the opening production page.
When a different program is the case, then I staple.

It ain't easy keeping over 40 years of collectables organized.

Reviving this very old topic...

I usually only post on Broadway side of the board, but I live in Germany and also go to London occasionally and see shows there and am wondering about storing the programs.

Most of mine from the West End are 170x240cm, which is just in between A4 and A5. All my Playbills from Broadway go into B5 sleeves and folders, but I don't know what to do with my West End programs. Are there any sleeves for that size? I'd be fine putting them in an A4 folder, but in the A4 sleeves I have them in right now they slide around because they are way too big :-/

Does everybody just keep them sleeveless or is there a way to solve this?

I keep all of my tickets in date order inside a plastic file which I then keep in a wooden cabinet.

I keep my programmes in alphabetical order inside the above mentioned cabinet.

I keep souvenir brochures and trinkets (such as mugs, jewellery, tins) in an identical cabinet next to the above one.

I keep 3 flyers for every show I see or like the artwork of and 2 for every other show that I can find a flyer  for ( this is becoming more difficult each year as paperfree advertising takes over). These I keep on shelves in transparent plasic boxes with lids and ordered alphabetically and sub-categorised into type: musical, play, opera, ballet, other dance, cabaret,  stand-up, circus, other entertainment, any other theatre-related flyer (such as tours or dvds or award shows). I used large shoeboxes prior to obtaining the right size plastic boxes.

I keep posters in cardboard tubes and in alphabetical order.

I keep carrier bags with show logos in alphabetical order behind the wardrobe and lapel pins in a big tin in mu trinkets cupboard. 

I keep theatrical madks on the wall.

Yes, I do believe I am obsessive and, yes, I do need more cupboards/ plastic boxes.

I also do magazine folders, but I just put ticket stub in there as well.  Maybe I should also look into a photo album!! :)

We bought a collage frame and cut a drilled two holes in the top and cut out the section in between and hung it on our wall.  One ticket from every show get popped in the top.  It is full now, so have to push it in.  We also put in tickets to museums, concerts and other events.  The ticket that ended up dead center against the glass is from a cave tour.

I bought 6 nice cardboard boxes that look like leather and organized them by Broadway, Tours, regional professional, college, community theater, high school & others.  Unforturnately, I have run out of space in all of them and now for the last 3 years they go into one box as I haven't found anything like the original boxes.
