Is the Showboat picture a rendering or an actual production photo? I can't tell!
Also did the boat fly out?

I recently saw Dirty Dancing in Chicago. It was amazing!
I was wondering how they were gonna do the infamous water scene, but they pulled it off. It was so creative and just all arond amazing. Great show too!! I definitly recommend it to anyone. I wish I had pictures to share.

I swear, people sure do like referring to things as "amazing." And man, that "Show Boat" picture is really cool. I love the little touch of water and stuff. And that's a beautiful theater. I wonder how they played the different scenes? I guess the actor's never left the stage?

Oh, my mistake Morosco. I had it in a book and it had two pictures side by side. One of 'The Rink' and one of 'The Gentle People'. I confused the names when matching them to the pictures. My mistake.

I knew something didn't seem right when I thought Boris Aronson designed it. 'The Rink' was in 1984. He wouldn't have been alive.

That rendering could be confused for an Aronson. I had to double check before I posted Larkin. lol

I enjoy Larkin's sketch for The Rink. It really does resemble an Aronson. If you compare Larkin's sketch for Rink with his designs for the original Mary Martin Peter Pan, and also how he adapted it for the 1960 filming, you can really identify his signature style..
I would love to see his original Peter pan sketches.

the set for Story of My Life at Goodspeed. Simple, yet effective. I'll be interested to see what changes, if any, they make to it for it's run at the Booth.

I also just want to chime in again to say that David Korins and Alexander Dodge are quite possibly two of my favorite designers working today.

I am not sure how to grab an image to post here since his website is flash based, but I urge everyone to check out Alexander Dodge's design for A Christmas Carol for Theatre Calgary. It's simply stunning. http://www.alexanderdodgedesign.com/

Kenneth Foy does great wrk as well. I am disappointed that we won't be able to see his idea for Tarzan now.

From the original 1959 production of GYPSY: Jo Mielziner's set of the railroad station at the end of ACT One. The railroad tracks and the overhead wires disappear into infinity. There is some symbolism there. The Daily News critic John Chapman was so enthralled with the set that he bought the drawing from Mielziner.

Thanks so much for that. I've only seen black and white renderings and picures of that set. I love the way Beatty finds ways of perforating his sets and allowing light to come through in interesting ways. I love designers that are aware of how lights can affect their designs.

All I could find on it is that it is of singers performing on a giant stage during a rehearsal of Giuseppe Verdi's opera 'Ein Maskenball'. The design of the stage shows 'Death' reading the book of life.

The designs from the Bregenz Festival are amazing.

I've been doing an exhaustive search on the Internet to see if I could find any photos of Eugene Lee's set for Candide. I haven't found any worth posting. Does anyone know of where there are some photos and / or a seating plan that shows the environmental nature of the design?
