BroadwayHD posted the opening number on their facebook which is cool because it never made it to my desktop, lap top or phone as I was trying all three to get it going.  Finally worked fine on my desktop during the scene opening of the shop.  So this is what I missed.

That's very courteous of them since they know so many missed the beginning.

My only issue with the stream was that it only allowed you to backtrack 5 minutes. I would have enjoyed very much being able to go back to the beginning of act two. BUT that is a very minor issue since I can watch those portions tomorrow.

Me too. I'll try to find one, or do a screen capture when I rewatch the show tonight. I love that this mistake got caught on film! Ah, live theater. And it was totally in character for Amalia to eat the whole glob, too.

For Jane, like everyone else who'd seen the show in the theater, I was really hoping they'd catch her at that moment, and they did! This is why musicals that will be filmed live need dry runs - so the camera people know where to aim and the editors know which camera feed to broadcast

Also, here's hoping that SLM going to cinemas also means a DVD.

I noticed that too. I also agree that I find him so charming. Question, has that cartwheel in his song She Loves Me always been there? I don't recall that from the performance I saw, but I figured he added it just for the Tony performance. 

 

Also, I find Gavin so vocally fun! Compared the cast recording, I loved the small touches he added to certain notes tonight. Maybe my ears were deceiving me. I'll watch again tomorrow.

The cartwheel's always been there. I asked him about it at the stage door because I'd seen the show twice: once with the cartwheel and once without. He said it had been choreographed from rehearsals, but he had a hamstring injury and stopped doing it, so that he could rest before the Tony's and hopefully do it then. We know the rest

I think I'll be watching it again sometime this weekend. Because, why not??? Still in awe over the show last night.

I applaud BroadwayHD for what it managed to achieve last night. Glorious, wonderful, fantastic cannot begin to really describe my feelings for this presentation. And in the future even if we have to pay more than nine dollars, I am in. I so wish I could experience this live and listening to people talking along with instruments playing softly in the background before it began made me long to be in that theatre. Does anyone know if it will tour?

Agreed. I wasn't really expecting much. In fact, I just thought they had a camera in the theater and we'd see the show from one angle (similar to how someone in the audience would see the show.) However, the closeups were REALLY COOL to see. In a way it makes it more intimate. I sast in Row L side orchestra when I saw the show back in February but seeing this in HD was a cool experience!

It won't tour, unfortunately. Roundabout only produces limited engagements.

BroadwayHD has surpassed all expectations and with this, I think, firmly established their place in the Broadway industry.

At intermission last night I posted that I had those buffering issues and the "invalid content" blockage several times in the first 5 minutes, then everything was perfect.  Again just about 5 minutes before the end of Act II, there was a brief buffering pause again, but no blockage with the "invalid content.  We have super fast ("blast" from Comcast, so buffering is unusual for us.

 

But it was wonderful!  By the way, Laura dropped ice cream at the performance I saw early in the run also.  Does she do that a lot?  I recall her making more of a bit out of it as it really fell right on her boob.  And I will say Zachary has gotten VERY light in his loafers since I saw it.  My husband asked "is he supposed to be that gay and effeminate?"   I still didn't see him as effeminate, but he certainly was very "light" -- in a Donald O'Connor way.  I didn't really find that when I saw it onstage.  And like others I still found him totally charming and endearing!

 

My greatest joy was seeing Jane Krakowski, who sadly was out the day I saw the show.  I sort of wanted to go back and see it with her, but now I got the opportunity.

Exactly.. I actually think his performance has grown since the beginning. Last night's performance certainly solidified for me why he was nominated for a Tony. He is a throwback to the golden age of leading men, and I adore it.

I wasn't able to watch last night, but signed up this morning, paid $9.99 (no other subscription), and the show is streaming as I type!

I had a long day yesterday and unfortunately fell asleep during the show last night (not from lack of excitement or enjoyment) so I can't wait to watch it today! also that gif of Jane...that was my boyfriend's favorite part of the show, we literally couldn't stop laughing during basically that whole number. I'm so glad this performance has been captured for people to enjoy for all time! one of the greatest musicals that unfortunately has never been a "hit" and now people can see how great it is.

it definitely exceeded my expectations though! I agree the live musicals can learn from this.

i was at studio54 on Tuesday evening and it was surrounded by broadwayHD trucks do I think the cameramen had at least 2-3 performances to 'practice' shooting the angles and what not.

I thought the whole shebang was terrific! I was definitely nervous about all the error messages in the beginning and was quite relieved when they were fixed. I've had to good fortune to see this show in-person twice and thought that the streaming version was a great way to get the essence of the show without paying $160/ticket. Like some others mentioned, I do wish we had more of a wider view of the stage and performers at times (watching some of the expressions of those in the background, for example), but I'm so happy with the broadcast. 

And thanks to all who had posted earlier about the best way to watch, etc.

very very excited about the possibilities for other shows to start doing this, especially limited run, encores, revivals, new show that dont find an audience, and end of run new productions, etc. A great way to get additional life and reach and revenues and preservation of solid productions and casts

sure wish they did this for on the twentieth century last season!

The producers stated earlier in the week that they would be filming both performances on Wednesday (2pm and 8pm) so when they polish/re-edit the version that'll be on their permanent catalogue, that final cut version will be compiled footage from 3 performances, one being the live stream footage.  Last night's live stream was fully live.

Just to follow up on the question about Levi's cartwheel in "She Loves Me." Yes, it's always been in the show ... until he pulled his hamstring. When I interviewed Levi, I asked him about it, and how the cartwheel came about. Glad to see it's back in for the broadcast. ... I also gotta agree with ljay889 about how Levi's gotten even better as Georg and shows just how worthy he was of that Tony nomination. He and Benanti have incredible chemistry.

This was such a terrific choice for home viewing, and it's so much fun to hear the audience having a good time. (My only tiny suggestion, and I have no idea if this is possible, but I sometimes wished I could hear the laughter even more clearly, as you do when sitting in the theater live.) What wonderful leads. Laura Benanti was a known quantity to me, but don't you think Zachary Levi is quite a find for light comic roles? I can't wait to see what he does next.

 

I watched via my Apple TV and it worked perfectly. I hope the terrific success of this leads to more of the same. Go BroadwayHD! You got me--I'm happy to be a new subscriber!

What's everyone's thought on a cinematic release?  Seems kind of strange to me.  While it might be nice to see it on the big screen, I really can't imagine paying MORE on two tickets than I did for my son and I to stream it. 

 

And yes, I'm sure there are people that didn't know about the stream, but I'm just not convinced this will bring in an audience.  Your thoughts?

I got home late and only saw the bows and the credits. Looked at it before going to work this morning. The video went somewhat blurry in the opening number. Was that my internet connection or were there some camera focus issues early on?

When it was in focus, it was pretty outstanding. But I only watched a few minutes.

I didn't have this problem last night nor this morning on the rewatch.
