I got my ticket thanks to the advice you wonderful people posted here about the app. 

I really hope it's Bernadette. I hope it's not just 'well, he did it with Ellen Greene' speculation. I would love to see Cynthia, Renee, Jane Krakowski or anybody do this role but there is always the possibility these greats could perform the role in a real revival (even if it's not in New York, as the show doesn't get revived often here). Bernadette won't and to see her in this role would make the kids with the hard to find VHS tapes of the original very happy. 

Hopefully they at least add a matinee for those who  didn't get in (and probably me too, let's be honest).

I must admit, I'd find it an odd pairing and wish they'd save Bernadette for a reunion concert with Mandy (**** that scene in the Sondheim 2010 Birthday concert when Bernadette walked out to perform Move On was overwhelming). But it is hard to say no to this. I NEED TICKETS :'(.

Fun fact: Bernadette Peters starred in the Eric D. Schaeffer-helmed Follies revival which was a Kennedy Center production.  Guess who's a big supporter of the Kennedy Center?  Adrienne Arsht, a trustee, donated the funds to establish the Adrienne Arsht Musical Theater Fund at the Kennedy Center.

New York City Center is honoring Adrienne Arsht that night, so it's very possible that Bernadette will be Dot.

I understand the Mandy sentiment, and can imagine the same thing being said (probably even more-so, at least from me) if he were to do it without Bernadette. My question is why did this not come up with Little Shop? BC the original Seymour wasn't in the movie? I know he was at the performance I saw with Jake. Was he hurt, you think?

I just meant as a kid in the suburbs of CA in the late 90s, I couldn't find it anywhere (unlike Into the Woods) so it was a rare treat then when a girl in high school let me record hers. I'm somebody who wasn't taken to Broadway ever as a kid. That's why this particular live performance would be cool for me!

Me too. It's such a beautiful moment, and it's probably that very moment watching the Sunday DVD that I fell in love with Bernadette Peters.

If Bernadette is indeed cast, I hope they had the forethought to 'build in' an extra performance or two. Even without her, they probably should have done that given how quickly it sold out. Maybe they will hold on until all the gala seats are sold before they announce another performance (if they are going to).

Indeed, Arsht seems to have one Broadway producing credit - the Bernadette-led FOLLIES.

Bernadette would be wonderful--as long as she promises not to slow down from the original tempi...and no excessive, self-indulgent crying!

I honestly wonder whether Bernadette is capable of singing the fast tempo of the title song today. 

If she can, it would convince me she can handle "Worst Pies" when someone (hopefully a rich gala ticker holder) finally decides to fund her Sweeney Todd revival :P.

I would love to see Bernadette participate, though, in truth, casting her opposite Gyllenhaal is a little odd. I also think it'd be a little strange to have her recreate her role and then not have Mandy Patinkin play George since those performances were equally legendary. Maybe she could play Marie in the second Act and they could get someone more age appropriate  (Scarlet Johannson, Kate Winslet, Jane Krakowaki) to play Dot.

I would absolutely LOVE to see Bernadette return to the role!! As far as casting her across from JG, I wondered if pairing him with Ellen Greene for Little Shop last year would be odd, but it ended up being fantastic :) I realize that this material is more true to life and that perhaps it's easier to suspend disbelief for a show like Little Shop... But I think Bernadette is still radiant, passionate, and seemingly ageless enough to tackle this. I've seen both Carmen Cusack and Brynn O'Malley as Dot as well and they both gave beautiful performances. I have to say though, if they announce Bernadette it will be the most excited I've felt to see something in a very long time!

Preach, PJ! I don't mind the slowing down of the tempi since I thought it worked fine in the last revival (not as great as the original but it wasn't offensive). But the excessive, self-indulgent crying in FOLLIES was such a letdown. Still, I can't imagine her doing anything of the sort with Dot (fingers crossed!).

I have some general questions about the venue. I was only able to get rear balcony seats (second to last row). would I need opera glasses? I assume that the set won't be too elaborate and what I will miss will be the facial expressions. My hearing is okay, but would sound be a concern in that seating area?

I've never wanted or needed opera glasses sitting in the last row of the balcony, unless facial expressions are that important to you. The sound is definitely not an issue though.

Is there a difference between self-indulgent and non-self-indulgent crying? We can certainly expect Bernadette to be crying at least as much as she did on the taped performance (we do not belong together comes to mind).

Whenever Bernadette and her crying comes up, I immediately think about this classic SCTV sketch from the early 80s starring Andrea Martin. Peters  was lampooned for being a crier even before Sunday in the Park with George!
