Here is a link to a video where you can see the new theater that will house the mexican production of Wicked:

The theater looks really nice and modern!

And this is the first official pic of the Wicked set for this production:

EDIT: I want to emphasize that the theater is ultra modern, I'm sorry there's no video in English...but watch it!

Are the prices listed in the website real? $1,500 (120 USD) plus fees for the most expensive tickets in the orchestra and the mezzanine.

The tickets for Cats go from $250 (20 USD) to $700 (55 USD). How much were the tickets for Mary Poppins? Has any other Mexican production come close to those prices?

Should we really be surprised by the prices of the tickets? I mean with all the controversy that has surrounded this production. It's only naturally that their prices would be high.

Yes, those prices are real.

120 USD (aprox) Top Price (Front Orchestra and Front Mezz)
90 USD (aprox) (Rear Orchestra and Mid Mezz)
60 USD (aprox) (Rear Mezz and Orchestra Partial View)

Mary Poppins tickets were 65 USD top Price, 40 USD, 30 USD and 25 USD aprox.

The prices for Wicked are (almost) Broadway-level, which is REALLY expensive for Mexico. I personally believe they are being really optimistic about the production's success... Pre-sales begin September 5th, for Banamex (CITIBANK) customers.

I think that if sales are low, they may lower the prices, since the last OCESA production (Mary Poppins) had prices 50% lower...

Also, discounts for OCESA productions are common, even early in the run, if you are subscribed to mejorteatro.com.

EDIT: I think the high prices are going to be explained by 1) the expensive rights OCESA has to pay to produce WICKED 2) the new theater (wich certainly was not cheap to build). By the way, the theather seating disposition is apparently identical to the Minskoff theater.

I don't see how they're going to sell tickets. The fans who really want to see Wicked are pissed about the prices, casual theatergoers can skip that and see two or three other shows with that money, and I don't think that rich people in Polanco are particularly interested on this musical.

Anyway... I'll just wait until it opens. Maybe Dana Paola is the best Elphaba ever, and maybe there are lots of people waiting to pay $1,500 pesos to see Wicked. It would be a shame to see it close after a few months.

I guess they are banking on a couple of things:
1. It's Wicked
2. Danna Paola and the controversy surrounding her casting
3. It's Wicked
4. It's Wicked

Hi! I just heard about the prices ... I know Wicked it's WICKED and so , but like it was said before, those prices have never seen before here in México, I really doubt that they have a long season, If you consider that you may go with someone esle, and that you have to pay the parking, and maybe you want to buy a souvenir, the total cost is extremly high. If the producers planned to bring new audience to the theater, surely they won't archive it This is pretty sad

I don't know if I'm right or not, but I don't think Wicked is that important or well-known in Mexico. We all know everything about it, but regular people are more familiar with other musicals like Les Misèrables or Cats. We don't have many tourists that come to Mexico to see musical theater, either. It's dangerous to rely just on the purchasing power of the fans who would pay anything to see it.

Ummm...why is there a child in the background? Are they having children play the flying monkeys? Cuz Chistery is in the background during that scene.

The kid is in some of the pictures in the Facebook album. It says his name is Rodin, and he is the director's son. I understand he was invited to play Chistery during that rehearsal.

I wonder if Danna will go on record as the youngest and shortest Elphaba?

Side note: if they're calling it "Desafiando la gravedad," it will be a different translation from the youtube video a few pages back.
