I know she has had "run-ins" with people on tumblr

But that doesn't matter, because we're all here. And with all of our differences we have one thing in common. We're all gay.

This season is crowded, but they may have thought they could have potentially squeeze in with Score / Book nominations and who knows maybe an acting nomination for one of their men.  But I think the real estate game on Broadway these days is such that you just have to grab a theatre when you can. The smaller theatres are in big demand.

Well, the press release was "postponement" while other places indicate "canceled."

http://www.palmbeachdailynews.com/news/entertainment/arts-theater/nerds-the-musical-dot-comedy-cancels-broadway-run/nqgLC/

Palm Beach resident Vicki Halmos announced Tuesday that she and other lead producers are canceling the recently announced Broadway run of Nerds The Musical Dot Comedy because a principal backer dropped out and there’s not enough time to raise financing before the show’s April 21 opening.

Time was short because the producers weren’t alerted to the Longacre Theatre’s availability until late December, Halmos said. The show was to have begun previews April 1.

News that the irreverent musical based on the rivalry and rise to power of Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Apple’s Steve Jobs was Broadway-bound generated a deluge of press when the announcement was made in January.

The show might tour or open in another market, Halmos said. “Broadway isn’t the be-all and end-all these days,” she said.

I think I'm going to blame the theatre owners.

Scarlet Leigh said: "At this point, is it even smart for a show to try and rush itself in so fast? Nerds tried it and look where we are now."

To be fair: NERDS has been in the hopper for about a decade. Not exactly "rushing" in the conventional sense, although that length of development seems to indicate either bad material (I saw it at an early stage and really liked it) or disorganized producing (I would believe that).

Either way, desperately sad for the company.  Just when you think you can exhale and not worry about paying the bills for a minute...

It would seem the Longacre Theatre has been cursed since the La Cage aux Folles revival. The shows that have since tried to play there have met unfortunate ends...

You might want to change "shows" to "musicals." Of Mice and Men and You Can't Take It With You have played there since La Cage and I certainly don't remember those having too terrible of runs/receptions. Otherwise, I agree with the musicals that have been there since.

True, true re Of Mice and Men.

What keeps me from saying musicals exclusively though is the fiasco known as Living on Love- although I guess you could refer to that as a play with music?

A "deluge of press" is a bit of an overstatement from that article. From the get-go, this production had issues creating any sort of buzz, and its extremely late cast announcement was the cherry on top of that.

This is an embarrassing failure on the part of the producers. I really do feel bad for the cast and team, who had the rug yanked out from under them and find themselves suddenly jobless before the show even bows.

YES AND the theater owners who let this move forward without proper financing.  Was this really the best and only option to go into the Longacre after Allegiance??  I bet not.

I bet the producers lost more money from ending production.

Lost more money as compared to what? Going ahead without sufficient financing and digging into an unescapable hole?

This was one I saw in its NYMF days and thought that it had strong potential. Was excited to see that it was coming to Broadway but sad to see that this is the case.

And, there was one thing that kind of bugged me about Lesli's tweet. I understand that no one likes it when people talk about them or what they do etc in a negative light. However, I've felt that if you're in a profession where you're opening yourself up to the public, comments, good bad and otherwise will occur. It happens in sports, TV/film politics and music etc. What makes Broadway any different? I get it, there are things that people shouldn't say or things that get too out of hand in terms of commenting etc. But, it is going to happen.

Seems like the cast did one last run-through of the show today, just for them. That's awesome.

If someone was making their debut in a show which got them into equity, but the show canncelled during rehearsals are they still apart of equity?

But that doesn't matter, because we're all here. And with all of our differences we have one thing in common. We're all gay.

If they started rehearsals, yes.

Not sure what would happen if they never start rehearsals.

I don't see any post on that link but good for them! Also that thing about a "deluge" of press...lol. If it caused any it was because of shock that the production was to occur. The only real buzz was probably on message boards from people who were confused when we heard so little and they hadn't even announced a cast til approximately 4 weeks before previews began.

"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
