Chicago the Musical Appreciation Thread |
Congratulations to Chicago for its 8000th performance! What a long run, and it deserves its glory.
And thank you, Patti, for being such a loyal fan and keep feeding us everything you know about this production. The world would be a much better place if people had shared your passion for art, love and beauty!
Updates on the "Chicago" principals: On the bright side, Jason Danieley will be "Billy Flynn" once more, from February 29, 2016-- May 1, 2016. Paige Davis continues as "Roxie" till April 3, 2016. EXciting news on the "Velma" front. Lara Seibert Young will be "Velma" from March 6-20, 2016. Praise Jesus! Now...for the "other" news: Amra Faye Wright will continue as Velma until March 5th and then (no big surprise) returns from March 21-July 3, 2016. Thankfully, the show is giving L.S.Y. a chance to shine as Velma. (information courtesy of Telecharge.com) https://www.telecharge.com/Broadway/Chicago/Overview

Thank you KanderEbb...I just read this for the first time. You are too kind.

Lovely video with the delightful Paige Davis (Roxie Hart). http://www.broadwaybox.com/daily-scoop/five-burning-questions-video-with-chicago-star-paige-davis/
Wow...it's been 5 years since I created the Chicago the Musical Apprecation Thread on March 20, 2011. I wish I had seen the show when I first started going to NYC in 2006. I've learned so much about the show, the history and about the many talented cast members. I've met quite a few cast members at the stage door, over the years. I would love to see Leigh Zimmerman again as Velma. I really love this show!

Saw this today last minute, and really glad I went. There's a reason it's stuck around so long. The choreography is a star and this company is precision. The leads were great, in particular, I was impressed by Lara Seibert Young and Jason Danieley. Adam Jepsen, Brian O'Brien and Angel Reda also stole my eye. And Raymond Bokhour's solo really delivered.
PLF.. I am glad you continue to go and that your obsession hasn't faltered. I was obsessed with the original broadway production from opening to closing. Even saw Liza do it a few times. I was equally taken by the revival . I kind of started fading away towards the end of the revivals first national tour . Jasmine Guy kind of killed it for me. I still re visit on occasion whenever Charlotte is back in.
Speaking of Charlotte, I think it's been over a year since she's done the role of "Roxie". Maybe when Paige Davis departs? I hope Charlotte still has an interest in doing the role. It's great that Lara Seibert Young was allowed an opportunity (all too brief) to shine as Velma. I think that one of the keys to improving the show is to have a variety of Velmas, instead of ...well, you know.
Here is some information for events that will commemorate Chicago's 20th Anniversary. I'm intrigued that William Ivey Long will present redesigned costumes for the Broadway cast, beginning in November 2016.

Paige Davis' run as Roxie ends on April 3rd. Who would you like to see as the next Roxie?

is the "you know" = Amya Faye Wright? LOL
http://www.broadwaybox.com/daily-scoop/10-secrets-fans-dont-know-about-life-backstage-at-chicago/ By Brian O Brien (Fred Casely, Billy Flynn u/s).
http://www.paigedavis.com/2016/03/30/thats-chicago/ The lovely Paige Davis writes about the show as she finishes up her current run this weekend. Speaking of Roxie Hart, Bianca Marroquin returns to her favorite role from 4/4---5/1, 2016.
Has anyone seen "Chicago" recently?

with the fabulous and talented Paige Davis (at the Austin Cabaret Theatre).
Being from the UK, I had the great pleasure of watching a show at Broadway for the first time a few weeks ago, on 5 April. The show in question was Chicago. I absolutely loved it, and although I've always thought of myself as an opera and classical music fan, I may have been converted!
Since my return to the UK I have been listening to the well-known 1996 Broadway cast CD, but I preferred especially Natasha Yvette Williams' hilarious 'When you're good to mama', Ryan Lowe's sensational 'A little bit of good', and Raymond Bokhour's heartfelt 'Mr Cellophane' to the versions on the CD. Would anyone happen to know whether it's possible to obtain a recording with this cast? If this thread isn't an appropriate place to discuss this, then please PM me.
Thanks very much in advance for your help
I saw Chicago a few weeks ago with Paige Davis. I have always wanted to see her in the role ever since the heyday of Trading Spaces. While her voice was not as strong as other Roxies, her acting was terrific. Most importantly, I LOVED her Me and My Baby. It seems like ages since a Roxie has been able to do the full choreography for that number (looking at you, Brandy) and man did she kill that number.
There is some exciting news on the Roxie front. According to Telecharge, Bianca Marroquin will continue as Roxie until May 22, 2016. Dylis Croman returns from May 23-- June 5, 2016. Charlotte D'Amboise makes a grand return from June 6 -- July 10, 2016. Now THAT is awesome news! The debonair Ryan Silverman returns as Billy Flynn from May 2 -- May 29, 2016. https://www.telecharge.com/Broadway/Chicago/Overview

Yeah!!! I've seen about twenty Roxies? Charlotte d'Amboise's Roxie is my favorite! My other favorite is Bianca Marroquin's. Thank you so much, Patti, for sharing such thrilling news!
Forgive me for asking, as I just asked a similar question about The Book of Mormon on another thread, but how is the tour version of Chicago different from the Broadway version? Just curious. I'd assume that they'd be near identical because of the simple set.
The sets are identical to the Broadway show. Sometimes, I've noticed a few words changes here and there with the Broadway and tour versions. Some of the choreography is modified, but not to any grand degree.
