Count me as another who doubts there ever was a big investor who pulled out. The whole thing felt like overly optimistic producers who jumped at the vacant theater without amassing the necessary funds (or a cast). I don't think anything shady is going on- if anything they were just foolish to think such an obvious flop like Nerds wouldn't face a major uphill battle finding investors at all, especially given the mismanagement of not announcing the cast, designing artwork, having a website in beta until a week ago (even fully launched the website sucks), etc. Who would hand their money over to such ineptitude?

I feel for the cast and crew and wish them well. Sounds like they found out basically the same time we did. They deserve better and will hopefully find it.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

Me neither. I think if we're gonna see another show wedge its way in by Tony time, we'll know by week's end.

With only 6 weeks until Tony cut-offs a show would have to act fast.  The only realistic candidates would be something already mounted or recently mounted Off-Broadway.

the hopes for LAZARUS coming in for a short run has crossed my mind. Maybe it could just play from April - September(6 months)?

A Chorus Line played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013.

The cast of Lazarus is no longer available.

Another show would have to act extremely fast. Nerds was already cutting it close with a first preview on April 1, giving them less than 4 weeks of previews, what most other shows are doing, and shows also typically have 4-6 weeks rehearsal. It would have to be something that's ready to a point where really all the need to do is tech the show in a the new theater, and have the entire cast on stand-by.

^^ Exactly.  It won't be Lazarus.  But is there something else out there?  Plus the Booth is also available after Hughie folded.  Unbelievable that in such a packed season not one but TWO prime theaters open up at the last minute.

The Neil Simon has been sitting empty for months. It's not that surprising that theaters are sitting empty. It just happens sometimes.

A Christmas Story started as a standalone production at 5th Avenue in 2010, then did a short national tour -- four or five cities -- in 2011 before coming to Broadway in 2012. so yes... it happens

And isn't Bodyguard going on a US tour now, too? So yea, it certainly happens. But is the Nerds tour even supposed to be before the Broadway production? I mean, technically, they could find another/more investor(s) within 2-3 months and snatch up the next theater that becomes vacant  in the summer. After all, they already started rehearsal, so I'm sure they'll want to get this mounted as quickly as possible while the actors are still available...

I don't think it is realistic at all for another show to get it together in time to grab that theatre for this season. It probably wasn't realistic for NERDS.

They should try to do another production at a higher end regional theatre to gain buzz and investors if they do indeed want this to come to town next year or have any future life.

That is sadly desperate and a little weird. I cringed.

Or maybe just aim for Off-Broadway?

That tweet, yikes. Just no.

As one of the many following this crazy tale, I feel horrible for the cast and crew. I knew the director when we were both younger and she was a great girl.

Count me among the many with the belief there was no investor pullout, there was no investor from the beginning.

Why would you want to sneak in before the Tony deadlines, especially in a competitive season like this one?

I think it was just meant to be a joke, but yeah that is a little weird.

But that doesn't matter, because we're all here. And with all of our differences we have one thing in common. We're all gay.

At this point, is it even smart for a show to try and rush itself in so fast? Nerds tried it and look where we are now. This season is already pretty overflowing with shows and more then a few of them are already fighting for the few spots at the Tonys pretty hard. There is a lot of good stuff this season that it's already at the point that even good shows, performances, designs, etc are going to get left out in the cold come Tony time because there just isn't the space for it all this season. This is a REALLY good season! One of the best in recent memory. It would be hard for any new show to fight for attention and recognition at this point.

Then again, who knows, if 'Hit List' could do it.... ;-p

is she talking about us?

"

While many of us have been shredding this show in other threads, this thread has been pretty kind and sympathetic to the cast and crew.

I imagine it must be pretty emotional for everyone involved in the show, hence the comment on twitter.

If she wants to be mad at someone, maybe start with those who lied and said the show was going up.

Some folks may be genuinely devastated to loose their jobs on this show, but the writing was on the wall, the writing on the wall was so big that you could see it from outer space! Nerds had absolutely ZERO advance, you need an advance so the cast and crew can continue get paid every week. I would be surprised if anyone was genuinely shocked that this show isn't happening.

I haven't found this news very surprising, but it's sad for the cast (which seemed to be the most exciting part about the show so far for me). At least these composers can say they had the cojones to try. Also, Lesli Margherita calling this message board a "hell board" is kind of rude. People say nice stuff about her all the time on here.
