Yeah, HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL is surprisingly a great choice.

Terrible show... but perfect for little middle schoolers who don't even know what "acting" means.

They all have lots of fun doing it and the audience totally eats it up! I mounted a production at the local Middle School and kids loved it.

Our middle school drama coach recently auditioned all the kids BEFORE deciding on a show because she wanted to see what he had.

I support ^^^ this approach, because it becomes a bad experience for everyone if the talent doesn't match the material. I've seen too many cringe-fests...

For example, I'd stay away from CATS altogether, because of the dancing requirement.

You couldn't be more mistaken or ignorant!  That is exactly when most students discover and begin to develop their talents.  I can back that up with proof!

Back in the dark ages before there were Jr. versions of all these Broadway shows, I was in a musical version of "The Headless Horseman".  I got to faint on stage.  People thought I actually fainted.  I was hooked!

My younger brother was in "Guys and Dolls" the following year.  He was NOT hooked.

My daughter did "Once Upon a Mattress".  That's another show perfect for kids.  As are "Annie Warbucks" and "Snoopy".

Do you realize that you are bringing up a thread that is some 5 years old?

MidS -- what the heck was that video suppose to prove? And to whom?  (A poster that hasn't been here in years?)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

My middle school was a small tiny 100 student kindergarten to 8th grade school and are cast was 8th to 6th grade but are school still did classics and we always got a large crowd.

We did The Music man, Annie get your gun, Oklahoma, Guys and dolls, Hello Dolly, George m!, My fair lady, Crazy for you, The king and i, The sound of music Bye Bye birdie, Mame, Fiddler on the roof, Beauty and the beast and South pacific which I was the lead of. ( Im in high school now) My director made sure to revise the script though to make it school appropriate.
