The seagull costumes actually don't look too bad, but the Flounder costume.....what were they thinking?

I wonder how the show's going to be received by the critics. It probably won't matter since it'll run for years anyway.

This show is going to be legendary for it's utter lack of any artistic taste.
It's not ill conceived and amatuerish.

this show looks like somethign from vegas - not nice vegas, like the wynn but cheesy, touristy vegas like circus circus. looks like crap.

I really despise the whole look of this show. I'm still going to give it a chance and see it (eventually) but it just looks ridiculous and WAY WAY WAY WAY overstuffed and cheesy.

I actually don't mind the Flounder costume, I can't really think of anything better for the young actors to wear. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what they think Flounder should be dressed in? The Sebastian costume is decent also, with the exception of the googling eyes on the hat. They just seem weird and out of place.

The more I think about it, the more I think that what was created for the show is fine.

We run into some dilemmas with our expectations:

Do we go with the movie look? It would look too theme-parkish.

Do we go with a new look? Interpretations could look odd and not work out for everyone.

The story takes place in an imaginative world. We can't fill the stage with water and have people sing and act for us in tails (as interesting as that would be). So what's the next best thing we can do?

I like the way the waves look... and Scuttle's rock. The costumes give you an idea of what they are supposed to be. I know there are some things I would change because I visualized them differently, but I still feel that they serve their purpose.

The two things I can't stand in those clips are Tituss (looks & sounds like he's better suited as Rafiki than Sebastian) and his costume. The "top hat" is so covered with eye balls and crab legs that is just looks like a stuffed crab sitting on his head. If they were going for a crab shell effect...why not use a round bowler hat? and the rest of the costume looks like a heart with organs hanging off of it ...yuck.

Everything else looks like fine though.

I've watched the preview video more times than I can count. "Kiss the Girl" has been my all-time favorite Disney song for YEARS. I LOVE how it was done and how Titus sings it, so obviously I have focused on that part. I've been able to adjust to the costume. I like the parts dangling off. They're made of the same material as his pant legs, so they actually do look like extra legs, even if they are limp. The thing that I would have changed on the costume is the crab on top of the hat. With the legs present, it does look like a crab on top of a crab. So I would say just get rid of the legs on the hat.

That part gets me way too excited though... Titus really does a great job changing up the end of the song but staying true to it .

Besides the forced elements of creativity, consistency is also a major problem with the design of this show. It can't decide whether or not it wants to be literal or not.

While Flounder, Flotsam, Jetsam, and Scuttle wear representational costumes of what they are, the merpeople literally have tails sticking out of their asses, and Ursula is literally a squid-like merperson (as in the film), with working tentacles - there's no element of consistency to the design.

The ship looks literal, but the pile of garbage looks like the Blob from the 1980's film. and then there's the stuff that is caught between literal and representational, like the giant bongs, and Sebastian's costume.

There's no specific color palate, everything just looks thrown together wildly. It's really all just a misguided, overstuffed mess as far as design goes.

And from what's been said, the show itself is not good enough to rise above that little problem. (Hopefully people are wrong, but the more I see, the more I seriously doubt this show will be a success, both critically and financially.)

Well no, lol. I certainly would like to see something better overall, but Sebastian makes everything else look and sound fine in comparison. I mean, at least Flounder doesn't have a stuffed fish hat sitting on his head.

I think the creative designers were aiming for stunning so they just threw a lot of fabric on and covered it in glitter and sequins.

It shows how less is more. I thought the costumes/sets/lights etc for The Lion King were (from looking/seeing clips etc of Little Mermaid) WAY more beautiful and intricate than TLM's. And they were much less minimal and even if they weren't price-wise, they really knew how to use their money in a productive and gorgeous way whereas TLM's designs look ridiculous.

I'm sorry but this picture is just plain gross ! Ariel does not look like a mermaid... a fiji mermaid.. probably !!! she looks like a missing link between the evolutionary primordial soup ... when fish came to to the land and starts developing limbs & lungs & the flounder's costume is unforgiveable!!!- i could have made that ..myself !!! CHILDREN WILL HAVE NIGHTMARES WITH THIS COSTUMES !! OMG !!
