Lea Michele |
Even if she is a "diva," why does that matter? How does it affect one's ability to enjoy her performance? There are tons of performers who are diva-like or difficult to work with or just awful people, but they don't get the kind of backlash that Lea Michele gets. I think she's very talented and I'd love to see her on Broadway. If she is as awful as people say, it makes no difference to me. It's not like I'm going to be hanging out with her.

"The derision heaped upon Michele was immediate: internet commenters lobbed insults on her for her forced smile, for trying too hard, for how she looked, for how she posed, for how she was humiliated. Lange’s imagined diss was a perfect smackdown of all Michele stood for, regardless of whether or not it was intentional. If she did want to insult a fellow actor so publicly, doesn’t it say a whole lot more about her than it does about Michele—and none of it very flattering?"
I agree, Lea was being professional and kind on that carpet. Only props to her.
"Her polished professionalism is criticized, as if being a polished professional is a bad thing. She did not weep on cue in public when Monteith died, or seek sympathy. She does not claim to be rough around the edges, she doesn’t advertise her frailties, she maintains a distance with the public. She turns up and looks good at premieres, she acts, and does what she is required to do
Lea Michele has not murdered puppies (that we know of), publicly said anything remotely offensive about anything, adroitly maintains a consistent performance as an annoying character on a hit primetime show, and on red carpets responds to photographers’ constant calls to look this way and look that way by looking this way and looking that way.
For doing all this, well, she is hated. The full footage of her on the red carpet yes, shows her posing, but posing to order. Despite the final frozen images we see in magazines and online, it literally sounds horrible, rather like the most hideous cattle-call. If her smile is fixed, it’s because she is being instructed, aggressively, to pose by a bunch of jackals with cameras. But even if she did enjoy it, even if she enjoys the attention, so what? Why shouldn’t she?"
I actually wish there were more people like her in showbusiness. I just love her attitude. She is professional, yes, and yet always kind and very reasonable. She seems like a lady you can say anything to, professionally and personally.

Sweetie, she'd dismiss you just like Jessica Lange dismissed her. She could care less who you are or what you have to say. Her quick rise to popularity during GLEE fueled even further her already in place "diva" like behavior. Once the GLEE candle fizzled, reality slapped her in the face and the hords of fans went away and she's now struggling to gain the momentum again which isn't happening. Its quite embarrassing to see. Karma's a bitch, Lea. Today's flavor expires quite quickly and talent can only take you so far. Its not all about the talent if no one wants to deal with your nonsense. Trust me, in my industry there are many great people I don't want to work with as I don't want to have to deal with hours of their crap.

I would very much like to see this attempted.

To Hork: your are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I can't knowingly put $ into the pocket of someone I find repugnant.
I'm not fan of anyone's Diva behavior, but particularly not from one that hasn't even earned it.

That was a damn good article, thanks for sharing!

No one on this board knows her personally. You guys are making judgements towards her because of baseless allegations and rumors that have no merit. Also the fact that people are using a gif of Jessica Lange "snubbing" Lea Michele to make a point goes to show that this argument has no semblence of fact backing it up; Jessica Lange could have easily not seen her or did not have the time to stop and say hello. If the rumors are true and she is, actually a diva, then why has she continued to work continuously after Glee? It's not like she is a huge star by any means, so why would show runners put up with her diva behavior? I personally think Lea Michele is a fantastically talented performer, who people unfortunately like to hate, and I would pay money to go see her on Broadway.
Lea would be nice to see on stage again IF she learned to be humble, show humility, be respectful, and understand she's not the center of the universe/production/everyone else's life.
And yes, I have worked with her. These were my thoughts about her when I knew her and it seems like little has changed.

Well Scream Queens had the same show runners as Glee did and The Mayor is still brand new.

That's exactly where I am. I haven't been paying attention to the behind the scenes stuff, but I remember those Glee days with people saying other singers/characters should get more songs, they're just as talented, etc., and I was so confused because there was such a difference in quality. Lea Michelle has a beautiful singing voice, and you can tell the formal training is there. I may not like her singing pop so much, but when she sings songs from musicals, she just blows me away.
You might take her theatre attitude too seriously. I think she does it with a slight wink and actually think she's always respectful and humble and professional. I find her attitude refreshing.
Even here on the red carpet. At least she shows respect to her colleague and the photographers. Unlike the woman strutting by.
And even if she woud have snapped her fingers once or twice, when the director would have said: "Lea, shut it", I'd expect she would say something like "ok, sorry".
I really think people misinterpret her.

Yes, but why would Ryan Murphy cast her again if she was terrible to work with?

Just ask Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, who was very famously snubbed by Lea Michele.
What shocks me still is her friendship/bond with Jon Groff. He comes across as such a nice - down to earth sort of person and yet they are BFF's. So either she's not so bad or I've got him painted in the wrong hues.

I actually think he is kind of a false queen.

Ryan sounds like queen of the divas himself, ask the niptuck cast.
I see the Groff/Michele relationship like this: She's the annoying friend who you grew up with and love and just can't quit. There was a story on this board about the time they were at a restaurant and she was rude to the server. Groff later apologized to the server.
We'll see how The Mayor does but it's airing against This Is Us in the fall so...
Jordan Catalano said: "You know that chorus girl who's in the very back of the crowd, all the way upstage and over to the left, basically offstage? She should be to the left of that girl.
Yay Jordan! I haven't seen you here in quite a while!

"
Per a segment she did on BRAVO Murphy still has the rights to Funny Girl .. I personally would pay good money to see her perform "my man" ! She did AMAZING things with that song on Glee I can only imagine how much better she sounds now ! diva attitude or not the broad has pipes !
Shoot how many Broadway ladies aren't divas !
Shoot how many Broadway ladies aren't divas !
Sweetie, Lea is far from being a Broadway lady. She's only appeared in 2 shows. Audra, Sutton, Jessie, Patti - THOSE are Broadway ladies. Lea is not.

Lea is insufferable. If the thread on here still exists, feel free to search for and read all about the stories I've posted straight from the mouth of one of her ex-boyfriends. It's unbelievable.
P.S. for the record, Jordan has interacted with her and has many connections to her. Doubting that is just ignorant.
