VACATION TIME-DOLLY |
I'm seeing the show tonight for the first time after buying the tickets, geez probably some time last year. It sucks but it is what it is.

The show is still great w/o Gavin, but yeah you might end up caring for Barnaby and Horace more than him if you go this week. Still a spectacular show though!
Oh no, Broadway Joe! Don't feel that way at all! All these comments are just opinions. The understudy is just fine. The show still shined last night! And you will have a great time! Guaranteed!

Agreed! You'll definitely love it, Broadway Joe.
Everyone is entitled to express however they feel about an understudy, that's a consumer's right and prerogative. But when I read a sentence about Nathan Madden being ...."a decent actor..." - I have to speak up...You should've seen him go as jerry Mulligan in An American in Paris...I saw him go on several times....he was brilliant...flawless in a very difficult role. Perhaps Cornelius isn't a role he can flourish in quite like in AAIP, or maybe he's just getting used to the role, but I'm just saying you guys should've seen him go on as Jerry Mulligan in American In Paris at the Palace Theatre.
NiceWork2: Thank you, good to know. We make these statements sometimes without seeing the whole picture.
Is there any way to know these other actors' vacation schedules in advance, as we know Midler's? I'm thinking of seeing this show in September with Murphy, but would want to know if DHY, GC and the others will be in the performance, as well.

I was going to ask how your seats were, itonlytakesajourney, but I can see from your profile pic that you had a great view!

Let me explain a little more. I'm sure he's a great actor, but seeing him as Cornelius didn't seem to be his best role. To me, his performance was decently good.

There were amazing seats! We could see the gorgeous costumes and sets- and the actors- very clearly. The only exception would probably be Cornelius's table, only him and Irene were visible.
Looks like Gavin is in, my playbill only has an insert saying that Stanley will be played by Nathan Keen.

He was great, I really enjoyed the show. My only complaint was there is such little leg room in the balcony but thats not the shows fault lol
For every six months you work for Scott Rudin, you get an extra bowl of gruel during the Wednesday matinee
So glad Gavin isn't on vacation this week. I'm going back for my third time Saturday night, this time surprising my 69 year-old mom who worships Bette and has never been to NYC let alone Broadway. My 11 year-old nephew is coming too (another great thing about Dolly. I know he'll love it too).
I'm like others on here. When I fall in love with a show, I'll go back time and time again. And when I try other shows, I'm often sitting there the whole time thinking about how I wished I was at the other show :).
Can't wait for my mom's reaction!
Zamedy, I'm the same way, and felt that when I saw Bandstand at the end of June. Even though I saw Hello, Dolly the night before with Donna Murphy, I was thinking I would have rather been seeing that again.
EthelMae said: "Poisonivy2: no offense taken and you're probably right that I should "branch out" in my theatregoing but when I find a show I love, like Dolly, I tend to re-visit them- a lot! When I did branch out recently, I came up dry- Groundhog Day- which I hated and Indecent, which for all the good intentions and word of mouth, I found fine but not great. So, I run back to Dolly!
"
There's a lot of good shows including off-Broadway shows. Have you seen Waitress? Government Inspector?
