Exactly. Not to mention there...

There is room at the Lyric for the dementors to fly in from the boxes. Not so much at the Hirschfeld. Plus, that ceiling at the Hirschfeld is gorgeous & handpainted. I doubt they would be too pleased in putting glow-in-the-dark anything on top on it. The Lyric's ceiling is much plainer.

I'm sure the Imperial would be free by then.  The Hirschfeld isn't the only theatre on Broadway.

I was just using the Hirsch as brian1973 had mentioned it in their reply.

I think the reason they went forward with the Lyric vs waiting for the Hirschfield for example is that ATG owns the theater and owns the production company (SFP) bringing in the show.  Vertical integration and all that

Hasn't it been confirmed for a while now?

Yup. I think this was just a statement that comes well after the Oliviers to remind people that they're coming to Broadway.

I just figured it was BWW missing the point of it winning so many Oliviers, heh.

How exactly would they decrease the capacity of the theatre? Would they make the house tighter? And expand the lobby or something?

But that doesn't matter, because we're all here. And with all of our differences we have one thing in common. We're all gay.

The same way Great Comet did?

Is Harry Potter that immersive? I thought it was playing in a proscenium staging. I haven't seen it, so I could be wrong. But from looking at Instagram pictures it doesn't seem like it's in a similar style of Great Comet.

It's not immersive at all, very traditional proscenium staging, with one exception.

There is one moment of something descending from above, but I wouldn't say that counts as immersive.

A character walks down the aisle, too.

But no, it's not like the Great Comet. However, while it's a big production with some big elements, it still needs to feel intimate as it's a play not a musical. They're taking out 500 seats. From where - orch, mezz or balcony - who knows yet.

I seem to recall mentions that the stage would be expanded past the current proscenium to give them even more stage depth, and thus removing a few of the first rows of seats, and that the back wall of the balcony (and maybe the orchestra level as well?) would be pushed forward eliminating some of the last rows in those sections (though I can't remember where I read this, so take this for what that's worth).

I'm really curious to know what the new marquee and everything will look like. and what the 42nd street entrance will look like.

I'm almost positive that they are moving the entrance from 42nd street to 43rd street.

In an interview on Thursday, the producers, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, said they had been looking for a Broadway theater, but had been avoiding the 1,900-seat Lyric because it was too big. But they said that Ambassador expressed a willingness to reimagine the space completely, and that that was persuasive; the show’s designer will be allowed to reconfigure the theater and bring it down to 1,500 seats.

That article isn't from Thursday.  It's from December 1, 2016.

I feel like this will no doubt be a sell out hit, with great reviews etc. But I'm wondering if it will be as much as an award sweep come Tonys next year. Will be interested to see what it ends up being in competition with. What else is on the plays radar for next season at the moment?

adamgreer, I'm well aware. I didn't type "interview from Thursday", that's copied directly from the article. I'm sorry I didn't edit it to your liking. I was simply sharing it as confirmation that this story had already been reported and they had already confirmed they were reconfiguring it.

How many times are they going to announce this? I guess the Opening Night info is new, but they word every article as if it's the first time they're announcing the transfer. Ha!

You're not wrong! Note that they don't include a first preview date, so we can expect yet another boilerplate press release with that teensy bit of new information in the coming weeks... HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD to Take the Lyric Theatre in 2018

I saw this in London last week and was actually quite surprised at how small it was. The set isn't all that massive. There's lots of trap doors and things, but it's just a big turntable with set pieces that roll on and off. I was expecting some major, grand thing. They do some cool stuff with it, but it could have played at most of the theaters here. But curious to see what they do with the space and how they "Hogwarts" it.

I thought we might get a on sale date in that e-mail.
