Disrespectful/Rude Behavior on These Boards |
I can understand expecting a theater board to be more mature and genteel than other boards. I know I had that expectation when I first joined. Of course, it took me about two seconds to realize that it wasn't the case.
I was a member of a Tori Amos message board and BroadwayWorld has nothing on those nuts.
Try going on a Disney fan board, they are mega crazy
I was a lurker of the BroadwayWorld forums since 2006-7, so I did know what I was getting into when I signed up 3 years ago. It was definitely worse then than it is now, at least things have improved in the past 9-10 years.
I dunno-- I guess I side with the OP a little more than some of you who fling words like "pedestal" and "high horse" around. I too have recoiled from the bullying and horde mentality that invades this site from time to time. But I don't consider myself a better human being because of it, just maybe more easily wounded (fragile snowflake or not).
Is everyone who asks for civility from time to time to be accused of a superiority complex? Does everyone who wants folks to play nicely by definition think of themselves as better than the rest of the class? Talk about painting whole masses of people with a broad brush...

And telling a community of people/posters that they are rude and mean spirited etc is just the OTHER side of the brush.( especially when you state you are not coming BACK to your own thread) Not every thread is mean or deteriorates in a flame war. But that's how we've been labeled. And I hate ALWAYS being told we're wrong in how we "behave" and need to be nicer.
"you're not good, you're not bad you're just nice".
Damning w faint praise.

OP literally says "However, you can have this information without getting up on a high horse" so wtf
Getting up on a high horse is not a good idea anyway. If a horse is really lit, it may not want a rider and you could find yourself tossed fairly early on if you can even manage to mount it.
I think firstly that yes it is true that this is the internet and yes, we can not help if people are rude, but I'm not sure if it is right to fall back on this and state 'well people can be rude, get over it, that's the internet'. I personally believe that most people on this board are nice and put forward their opinion kindly. However, there are others who are the opposite. So I think the best thing for an individual to do is to be the better person, be kind and not lash out at others, yet still enjoy open discussion where we can give our opinions feely and respectfully.
You receive what you give.
But, this isn't the "theater board" the Main Board is. This board was created to be a catch-all for all things non-theater.
This thread is stupid and you people are all poopyheads.
BroadwayRoss, showing to be sensitive is just raw meat and you will only invite more towards you. You shouldnt let the rudeness and bullying bother you. If you just remember that the people who are insulting/mean/rude on messageboards are people who are sensitive and bullied in real life so this is their way to turn tables on others and feel good about themselves. It will not bother you. In fact you will start to sympathize with them.

SOMETHING WE AGREE ON!

No, someone asking for peace, respect and common courtesy in any given situation should never be accused of possessing a superiority complex.
In the end, you can only control your actions/responses and not those of others. You can't ever let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.
It is best to just ignore those who are dedicated to creating conflict. Conflict cannot survive without your participation.
To quote FLOTUS: "When they go low, we go high."
It really is that simple.
Patti, is that you?
Don't worry, the anti-bullying concert will fix everything.
I wonder how Izzy's Baby is doing these days?
There's a report to mods feature...
Don't ever expect a moderator to reply...but hey, it's there!
It seems like some are offended that the OP was offended by their offensive remarks! Pretty funny
