Thanks all for your advice! I decided to just go for it and switch  my seat to Front Mezz, row B seat 2 (stage right.) I'm even more excited to see the show in December now!

I decided to try the onstage seating and saw last night's performance from the upholstered banquettes, stage left, row BF (second to last row).

 

When I bought the tickets, I was kind of bummed nothing closer was available, but as the evening progressed, I was really grateful to be up so high. Plenty of the action occurred right next to me, and had I been lower, I would have had to swivel around to see it. The only downside was that we were far enough left that the side staircase was cut off. But nobody lingered on it for very long, and we had a full view of everything that happened both on stage and in the mezzanine. 

 

Definitely wouldn't pay to do it twice, but no regrets on springing for the stage seat. If I were to go back, the only seats I wouldn't want would be the sunken tavern seats directly in front of the stage. Those people looked like they were craning their necks upward the whole time.

I agree about the sunken taverns, unless you're in the stage right ones where actors often take a seat and crave that interaction, it seems like a lot of work to try and view all of the action. My personal preference onstage would be in the bottom 4 rows of the banquettes as close to center as possible. 

Also, I noticed some people in the front 1-2 rows right against the stage struggling with lights in their faces when there were downstage solos, so that might be another area that needs consideration when booking.

I was thinking of splurging and getting stage seats. But in reading this thread, I think I may save some $$ and sit in the mezz. That being said is the 1st row of the front mezz worth $100 MORE per ticket than the 1st row of the rear mezz? From the opinions here so far it seems the 1st row of rear mezz might be the way to go??

I splurged and sat on one of the stools in the stage left sunken tavern and absolutely loved my seat and would do it again.

 

The view from the front mezzanine is probably really amazing. In my opinion, the rear mezz felt a little disconnected (yeah, I have seen it twice, the stage and the last row of the rear mezzanine). More ensemble members spend time in/around the front than the rear section, and in the rear section you are high enough up that heads of people on the platform by the upstage door get chopped off.

For what it's worth, I don't think you made a mistake. As I mentioned, my armchair (they are more stools than armchairs) was stage left, so I can't speak to your view exactly, but I absolutely loved it. You are right there in the action, the fact that you are facing the middle of the stage makes it really easy to see both the upstage entrance and what happens in the audience/mezzanine. Some really wonderful moments happen right by that stage right tavern that I think you will be thrilled to be so close to, as well.

Sorry if this had been discussed previously, but can you take jackets/bags to the onstage seating? Or do they make you check them? I remember Spring Awakening had a locker setup for your belongings.

You can take them with you. Before the show, the actors came through to various areas and told us we were in a high traffic area and to be sure nothing was on the walkways, but otherwise, I had my purse under the table and sweater on the back of my chair.

Just so I'm prepared:  my tickets are for Orchestra Row G, Right, in the middle of the row.  On the seating chart there's a strange dot between our two seats. 

For those who have seen the show, will these be decent seats?  Thanks.

I sat in rear mezzanine and I think I'd actually recommend it. That way you can see 95% of the action happening onstage and in the mezzanine entry exit rows. The stage comes out so far into the orchestra and plays so high onto the top of the stage that it totally fills your field of vision

I'm seeing the show in early December. I have stage seats. I'd like to go back in January and see it from a different perspective.

For those who have seen the show, I'm looking at Front Mezz seating. Would you recommend first row, 5th and 6th seats off of center aisle, or second row on the aisle?

I sat in one of the upholstered arm chairs in the "sunken pit" on stage right.  I loved the seats.  There was some looking behind, but the chairs swivel and have lots of room.  I also did not feel as though I was looking up at the actors.

It sounds like there really are a lot of great places to sit!  

When I saw the show, people on stage were allowed to bring their coats and bags.

I sat there and would do it again in a heartbeat. I think going into this show expecting to see "all of the action" is setting yourself up for failure. Many of the seats are on swivels, though, or permit you to turn around easily if you want to see what is behind you at any point, though. It's not like you're in a normal theater seat.

I would love to sit on stage and see it from there, but it would be more than a splurge for me. That said, I sat center rear mezz row E (right behind the acting platform in the rear mezz) and loved it. Had some fun interactions with ensemble members, and felt I had a great view of everything. Just a bit of warning though, there is a bar put up in front of the platform, probably to prevent people from putting their feet on it, and it inhibits leg room. I'm not tall (5'10" and my knees were pushed up against it the whole time, which was somewhat less than comfortable.

Firstly, they’re absolutely not onstage and shouldn’t be sold for those prices. You’re essentially on the orchestra level (yes, there’s a small lip, but come on), sitting against/directly below what there is of an apron, and so you’re craning your neck upward for the whole thing. Secondly, you get a lot of bright lights in your eyes. Thirdly, you’re maneuvering your view directly through various parts of the railings, and with a show with this much movement, you feel a little whiplashed by the end.

Great. That's disappointing to hear. That's exactly where I'm sitting when I see it next month.   And yet the downstage table seats are priced higher than the arm chair swivel seats by Pierre's Salon. Go figure. That's why I already know I want to go back in January and see it from the front mezz. Asking again to those who have seen the show from the mezz... given the choice between 2nd row on the center aisle or 1st row, 5th and 6th seats in from center aisle, which seats would you choose? Or doesn't it really matter?

I didn’t trot up to the mezz for a full look, Luscious, but I’d guess those options are correlative and should both be perfect. The next time I see the show, it will absolutely be from the mezz. I spent portions of the show gazing at it in envy.

Was in Row N of the side orch, but on the aisle.  Sounds far, but really only 10 rows back.   I think the ONLY things I would stay away from would be EXTREME sides of the orch.

 

I DID go up to take a look from the mezz.....and it is stunning.  I only stayed at the break between front and rear mezz....but I think nearly any seat would be spectacular.

 

Being in the orch, but underneath the mezz I was afraid I would feel left out....not at all.  There were one or two things that happened up there that we could see, but could hear perfectly and understood.

Is there a huge difference between the quality of front mezz and rear? I'm seeing the show in december and want to know if I should pay extra for front mezz.

Fluffy, did you decide yet? I have also narrowed down my seat choice to either front mezz or rear mezz. The cost for front mezz is double, so want to make sure its worth it.....

I had the same question for April, and i ended up buying first row in the middle of the rear mzz...hope I made the right choice! Anyone who´s been there could please tell me about the view? Txs a lot!
