"Musical exploration" is such a nice way to say "backer's audition."

Oh, I get it now! It's because of Davenport's mysterious kickstarter to get the cast of Spring Awakening to perform on the Tonys (though rumor has it that he was only using the kickstarter to cover up all the money they lost), that you're not willing to give him your money.
"

Honest question: is this your attempt at sarcasm? Because that is a genuinely good reason to not give anyone money.

I wasn't being sarcastic.

You really are just the worst, Jeffrey. Does this website actually give you money for your opinions? I would ask Rob to please reconsider his staffing and personnel decisions...

FWIW, I don't think anyone who writes for BWW gets paid.

Also OK Jeffrey. Then you have a very short memory.

That's a non-sequitur to my point. It flopped. Ken has a history of flops. No one in their right mind should give him money. Period.

And you should stop speaking for other people, or telling people what they should or should not do.

Davenport is a huckster who has never once managed to deliver the goods as a lead producer and rides the coattails of hits that he's given money to. He's most interested in selling himself.

Davenport is a much less charming version of Harold Hill and Max Bialystock. Not only is he a shyster, but some of his blog entries are completely puke-worthy. His audacious post about SpongeBob ruining Broadway after he put on one of the worst revivals of the past decade (Godspell) was hysterical.

I don't know who in their right mind would give him their money at this point.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

To me, Davenport will always be the one who acquired StageGrade, touted its excellence, and then quietly shut it down so it couldn't compete with his crummy review aggregator DidHeLikeIt.

^ Don't forget he made StageGrade's site LINK to DidHeLikeIt after that

I just tested it, it still does.

This is a great show but it closed at a loss originally when it moved from off to on Briadway where critics felt it got lost in the larger theatre and it never caught on with audiences. Similarly it failed in the West End despite them building a mini village for the theatre. I suppose with a big name attached it could build an audience (but Davenport doesn't really use big names does he?).

I could see it playing really well in a round, but bromate staging at Curcle in the Square if that were available, but out of Broadway houses that's about it (the Booth)?

I'm guessing his "announcement" was to coincide with the posting of the EPA notice, which is coming up in a couple of weeks: http://www.playbill.com/job/once-on-this-island-nyc-epa/00000156-dce2-d3ad-a95e-fee656920000. Appears to be a two-week developmental lab leading to a final staged reading; I assume for potential investors. God be with those who decide to take a chance with Kenny boy.

I don't see Daniel on that breakdown...can we assume he cast Andy?

Only when people ask stupid questions. My post was specifically referencing Daniel not being in the breakdown, and then you said who the hell can Andy play.

"Daniel isn't white." I've seen white Daniels. There's nothing that says he's black. AFAIK, there's nothing that specifies his race.

pretty sure he's one of those light-skinned blacks mentioned in the show.

OK. Regardless, the role is not on the breakdown.

Daniel is of mixed-heritage isn't he? French father and native/black mother? I suppose I could see that character being white, but the impression I got from the overall story and the lines was that Daniel is meant to be light-skinned, but certainly not full Caucasian. I thought everyone in this show is usually Non-White - just split between darker and lighter-skinned, the lighter-skinned being those with French ancestry mixed in, but I forget if anyone is meant to be pure white French (other than Daniel's father) in that show. I could be wrong though.

The Booth is where it played in 1991. I didn't see it at Playwrights' Horizons, but I did see from the mid-to-rear mezzanine at it at the Booth & thought it was utterly charming.

FYI, the original Daniel was Jerry Dixon who is... a few shades darker than Andy.

That post was the first thing I thought of when I saw SpongeBob and found it to be an absolute delight--and very theatrical to boot.

And I have to say, the Spring Awakening Kickstarter is really just the cherry on top for me, as far as Davenport's business practices and predatory schemes are concerned.
