I'm seeing it on Sunday in Chicago and I love the movie and the cast recording and I just don't want this tour to ruin my love of the Matilda story. I really hope my Matilda doesn't have any accent or diction issues. Here's a link https://m.facebook.com/groups/336966823148489?view=permalink&id=584449921733510&ref=m_notif¬if_t=group_comment_mention

Its from a closed group so it might not work, also in the comments so many people were being negative about it. I'm scared. I'd rather just wait to see the London production...

Don't listen to them. I saw the show back in Feburary (so with the cast you'll be seeing) and they were all great. The three girls who rotate Matilda are all very strong actresses and singers. I've seen each of them perform and they delivered the role extremely well (I saw them all at the very very beginning of their runs) and they've only gotten better as time has gone by. David who plays Miss Trunchbull is fabulously insane in the part, one of my top three miss Trunchbulls. Quinn who plays Mr Wormwood makes the role more comedic than others with his hilarious body movement and gestures. Cassie as Mes Wormwood gives an extremely energetic performance every time I've seen her. The show is in great shape the only issues they ever have is sound and they usually get it figured out after a day or so. I can only identify one weak link in the show which is the Miss Honey who I'm not overly fond of. But she still does quite well. I just don't like how she plays the role as really cold I prefer Jill Paice and Allison Case's much warmer interpretion of Miss Honey.

Not everyone likes all shows but if you've liked the music and story for a while now I'm sure you'll have an amazing time Sunday.

Call_me_jorge:  I relate to you exactly! I saw the tour in Detroit and shortly before seeing it, I read a very negative Facebook comment and was really anxious when the show began. But when I saw the show, there were no sound issues at all!  I noticed a few things with the accents (one or two of the kids randomly kept the British accents when speaking, but not singing) but nothing that made them particularly difficult to understand. I would say go into the show ready to enjoy it, and see how it goes for you. I don't doubt that people are having sound issues, but it seems that they get smoothed over after a show or two at each stop. Not that it makes it okay to have these issues, but.

Saw it on tour in Boston and it's currently fantastic. Very high energy, not flagging at all. Yes, the accents came in and out, sometimes sounding American, sometimes sounding vaguely Irish, but that was only a low key issue and didn't bother me at all. Sound design seemed fine, though we were in the second row (and then the first row, as someone didn't show up).

Anyone know how the show is doing financially?

When it was in Pittsburgh a few weeks back I saw the last performance and the sound was definitely an issue from the high balcony seats. My mother and sister couldn't understand a lot of it and even I had trouble following even though I have the albums memorized. It also seemed like the orchestra was levelled so far down that it was barely audible at points. But I will say sound at the Benedum Center tends to be spotty and always fairly echoey (if that makes sense) so it could have just been an issue with the house.

Performance wise though it is in spectacular shape. So much energy it's literally thrilling! The cast all did a wonderful job acting and doing the amazing choreography.

Apparently there was a significant cast change very recently. Canadian actor Dan Chameroy (Gaston from Toronto's sit-down "Beauty & the Beast" back in the day) is now Miss Trunchbull, and is quite good. In fact, many newbies in the cast are Canadian, which makes sense since the tour will be setting up shop at the Ed Mirvish Theater for many months. Saw the show here in Boston over the weekend and enjoyed it. Not as "scenic" as the Broadway production, and the Act 2 emerald laser scene was a let-down, but the performances are fantastic.

The Matilda I saw -- Hannah Levinson, who was excelllent -- isn't in the Playbill, only on the insert. I figured that meant she was new.

The kid ensemble and the adult ensemble when they're playing big kids were particularly terrific. Because of them, I'm going to catch it a second time before it leaves Boston. The job they do on "Revolting Children," "School Song," and "When I Grow Up" are worth the ticket alone, IMO.

If you saw the show Saturday night it was Hannah and the children's first show. Sunday night was their second show. So she is brand new.

The principle adults started a month ago. They're switching everyone out to get the new cast ready for Toronto.

I was there Sunday night. Now that I know it was only their second show, I'm even more impressed. They were spot on.

The tour opened in Toronto last night for a 6 month sit-down, and it looks like the sound issues have followed.

From a review this morning:

"It didn’t help that the sound mix didn’t seem quite right on opening night at the Ed Mirvish Theatre."
