It's a Jerry Zaks show? I would imagine the first call for Horace would go to Nathan Lane.

I believe Michael Crawford announced he was retiring from theater after The Wizard of Oz.

And while we're casting, how about Kate Baldwin as Irene and Drew Gehling as Cornelius?

Here are some ideas I thought of for Cornelius Hackl:

Sorry....that would be awful.  And he'd never take the role, I suspect.  Such a boring, non-musical lead.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

If she does request doing 6 performances a week, I wonder if they'll get a B list name like Kathie Lee in Putting it Together for Carol Burnett.

I think Lauren Molina would be great for Minnie.

Nathan Lane would be a terrible Horace. I can't imagine anyone, including himself, would think that's a good idea. His GUYS & DOLLS costar, Peter Gallagher, would be an ideal choice, same as Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Has the length of the run been established? This is sure to be the revival of next season. I just adore HELLO, DOLLY! and Midler doing it is indeed an event.

Regular ticket prices will.be absurd especially if they have to factor in her doing 6 a week..Who will see it for the 2 performances she is not in it? This is not geared to younger audiences - Hello Dolly and Bette Midler . It will appeal to many and an equal.number who will pass it by.

Saw it years ago. Enjoyable but once was enough

I recall Jerry Herman refusing to green-light that rumored Patti LuPone production a few years back unless they agreed to recreate or closely follow Gower Champion's original staging. I wonder if that same stipulation will be applying here.

Pre-sale will probably be for AmEx Black Cardholders, or whatever card is for even richer people.

I would wager, unlike Patti's need to reinvent everything she's in so it's "her" stamp on the part, Bette doesn't give much of a **** what staging is handed to her. But I suppose we won't know till we learn more.

Agreed. It would be a step down in her career if anybody else was starring, but with such a big name, who wouldn't take featured over leading?

Having said that, I think for once BWW provides the answer in its article on the creative team (emphasis mine):

"This new production of HELLO, DOLLY!, the first new production of this classic musical to appear on Broadway since it opened more than fifty years ago, will have at its helm Jerry Zaks as its director, and will feature choreography by Tony Award-winner Warren Carlyle. The new DOLLY! will pay tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion, which has been hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history."

I was holding out hope that she'd bring Rochelle, Rochelle: The Musical to Broadway, but I guess this is good news as well. :)

Lots of revivals next season! Cats, Miss Saigon, Smokey Joes, possibly Whorehouse, and the Roundabout hasn't announced their musical have they? This certainly seems like the event of the season!

They have. It's The Robber Bridegroom. (No, I don't get it either.)

Looks like the answer is yes. I, too, remember the Patti revival fell apart when Jack O'Brien said he wanted to take a different approach on one of the songs, Herman said it had to be the original production, and then O'Brien and Patti both balked.
