They might be fixing it now, I doubt the last show is totally sold out. Keep checking back.

I finally saw it a month ago. Based on clips I have seen of it, currently the production doesn't have the same energy level.

No, it's a pale version of what it used to be. They are bored and I think the audience noticed.

Yes they likely pulled the remaining tix to make sure investors and friends and family and vips could have a chance at them. I'm sure some will again be released to the public.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Never got around to seeing this show so on a whim I bought tickets for 8/16 yesterday. Kinda glad I did now. Disappointing to hear that the show has lost its luster but maybe it will come alive in it's last couple weeks

I've heard that The Jungle Book has no present plans to come to NYC. Allegedly, there's too much of a perceived similarity to The Lion King and Disney is concerned about playing both shows against each other.

Like most closings, I'm sure Disney will hold a large group of tickets for everyone involved with the production (designers, etc.) I would await the release of additional tickets.

I AM NOT TRYING TO BRAG. But, I remember a few months ago, I came up with a theory that Newsies will close soon to make room for Hunchback and someone said that was ridiculous. While it's not for Hunchback, I was right :P

Was there an official re-couping announcement? DISNEY does not usually release that information. (I'm not doubting just don't remember the announcement.)

This is gonna be a Gold Mine in schools and Summer Theaters!

Johnny thinks it's Muppet's, did anyone see the reading/workshop they held at the New Amsterdam not so long ago? I remember hearing it was kind of like After Midnight in the sense where they would have a "special guest" rotations for the show, but I could have made that up. Anyone have info about the workshop/reading?

Sad to see this show go. Saw the original cast and I really enjoyed it. I'm glad there's going to be a national tour and hopefully some of the current cast/past cast can be involved.

Didn't really see this coming at all. I feel like this is a similar situation with what Disney did with Mary Poppins. Perhaps Hunchback will be coming in as others have said.

It should have won Best Musical. A true pity it didn't.

Is everyone forgetting that this was originally only supposed to be a three-month run?

Sure it didn't last as long as "Beauty and the Beast" or "Lion King", but I think any show that ends up running nearly ten times longer than it was supposed to will be considered a huge success by its producers.

Congrats on a still-healthy run for a smaller scale Disney shows. I'm assuming they will use this set to tour? I think Allegiance, Dames at Sea, Forum, anduppets could all be viable options!

No, you weren't. It's not closing to make room for anything specific at all.

It does seem like you're bragging and making your prediction into two parts so you can be half right, as opposed to it being one prediction that isn't true.

I think Disney has been clear, that like Jungle Book, Hunchback is in development for future licencing . . . that's the official word . .. but if Hunchback is a hit, who knows. Jungle Book would probably need one more production before landing in NYC. I also suspect that the European Division of DTG would be interested in either, since Newsies is not going across the pond.

From what I heard, yes, DTG might be afraid of Jungle Book competing with the two other Family Musicals - even if was ready to land in NYC this fall. It will be interesting, with the more adult tone and subject matter of Hunchback, how it would fit in their marketing plan and brand plans - since even at La Jolla, they only way you put together that it's Disney - is either know who wrote the music for the Disney movie . . . or read the produced by special permission of DTG. It's not touted as DISNEY's HUNCHBACK.

Those I know who maybe working on Hunchback say there is no official plans in the works, but it would be a pleasant surprise if it transferred - and of course many working on hope that show will make the leap. So, it all depends on how big of hit it in San Diego.

There might be unofficial talk about how it could slide directly into NYC this season - it would be tight, but possible. It depends on when the Tony Cut Off

Anyone show that has run 1000 performances and has made money is a success and I think Newsies has a future film not only through the tour but through licensing which was always the intention by Disney.

Hunchback seems it'll like Newsies in that it'll be smaller in scale compared to Aladdin or Lion King which may work in its favour but it'll interest how it differs from the Berlin production.

Disney have a lot on their plate with not only Hunchback but also Frozen, Father of the Bride and The Princess Bride plus Shakespeare in Love which is opening in London in two weeks. I think with Aladdin doing great, we'll likely see an announcement of the first overseas production in the coming months
