#YesAllWomen and the Everyday Sexism project have made me aware how lucky I've been, to have so little experience with sexual harassment of any sort. But the problem there is that we should all be lucky, and it shouldn't be luck, it should be the norm.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I do quite like how my supposed self-entitlement via posting on a message board was elaborated and expanded upon versus what I was called.

Glad Eris brought this thread back on track and to the point and spirit of what this is really about, which is nothing to do with somebody's insecurity and lack of self-awareness.

It is not hacktivism, that oft-derided form of lightweight involvement that allows for feel-good clicks and commitment-free causes. Indeed, there’s nothing more authentic than #YesAllWomen on all of Twitter. It’s a product of rage and shared experience and human empathy.

This is a really great piece by a guy that really seems to get it. I tweeted him to thank him for it.

I was going to say something along the same lines - I am a frequent criticism of hashtag activism/slacktivism. But this actually uses social media in a great utilization of the medium - it's a meaningful social exchange. It's women sharing their experiences - which is WHAT Twitter is, at heart.

Records show a rape is committed every 22 minutes in India, a nation of 1.2 billion people. Activists say that number is low because of an entrenched culture of tolerance for sexual violence, which leads many cases to go unreported. Women are often pressed by family or police to stay quiet about sexual assault, experts say, and those who do report cases are often subjected to public ridicule or social stigma.

Last month, the head of Uttar Pradesh state's governing party, the regionally prominent Samajwadi Party, told an election rally that the party was opposed to the law calling for gang rapists to be executed.

The 1 most asinine thing about this piece - all of it.

Is it really healthy to obsess over every grievance and put the worst construction on all masculine behavior?

I don't believe anyone is "obsessing" over anything. It's real women sharing real stories. I don't obsess over the fact that I've been groped more than once on 8th Ave. It happened and I moved on but the truth remains that it did happen. Do I think every single male is out to hurt me? No, but that doesn't mean I should let my guard down when out at night.
